Hi guys I've got a question I could use some help with. My father-in-law recently got his hands on a colt .32 np det.special snub barrel in box excellent condition I'm not even sure it was ever shot. The original buyer purchased it around '62.

My question is how much is it worth, any way to accurately date it, and any thing special about it? Thanks I'd appreciate any info you got.

The .32 Colt N.P. (New Police) cartridge is identical to the more common .32 S&W Long, and both rounds interchange with each other.

The Detective Special in .32 caliber is scarce, and one new-in-the-box even more so. At the time this example was made it was popular in the police women market.

You can date it by using the serial number (stamped on the frame behind the crane. Swing out the cylinder to see it) and going to: www.proofhouse.com

If you found the right collector I'd estimate the value to be around $500 to $600, and going up.
