I have to give Lee Prec. their due! I use their collet dies, priming tool, and now their powder measure. Having gotten sick of weighing every charge, I spent the whopping sum of $18.00 for the Lee measure. I set it up, ran a hopper of powder through it (per the inst.) and set it for my load of 12.3 g of Lil'gun. I must have thrown 20-25 charges with it and I probably only had 3-4that were .1g light! I don't know what you other lee owners see, but I think that ROCKS for what it is!

Howdy, and welcome to a great place to gather and swap info.!!

I had that measure years ago and agree that it does the job as intended.

Isn't amazing that something that is so cheaply made and so simple to use actually works well?

I bought one a few months ago, for IMR powders it works far better than my much more expensive RCBS uniflow ever has.

which one are you using....

I see three on their web sight.....

the Perfect Powder Measure.

the Auto-Disk Powder Measure.

and the Pro Auto-Disk Measure.

I hope to order my first Lee set up in the next week or two, so knowing which one you got such good results with would be helpful to me.

P.S. are you a "flat lander" or a true "Maniac" ;)

this being asked by an admitted flat lander

I got a perfect powder measure with my anniversary kit. I am just getting around to using it. Great to know it works as intended.:)

I love mine, I do check it regular to make sure nothing is off ( as far as throw weight ), but have to say, after a 1000 throws she's still on it. I bought 1 for each caliber I mass produce so I wouldn't have to keep resetting...

SSN vet! flatlander or maniac? Man I was born raised (hancock cty) and educated in Maine (the only state in the union)... and as a MMA grad, I would have to ask what "boats" you were on? boomers or attack? --lol

I like my PPM. It throws accurate charges with any stick powder, ok with flake, and has some problems with fine ball. Basically the finer the powder, the harder it is to get it to run well. Mine jams the drum with AA#9 and WW296 unless I tighten the drum screw down until I can barely turn it. However with IMR powders,it proved more consistent than my BILs RCBS measure.
You usually have to play around with the drum tension to get them running perfectly, but they work ok.

I have one also and use it on occasion. Since I've gotten and RCBS Chargemaster I havent used the PPM much. For pistol I use the Autodisc. I have an autodisc set up for each of my calibers I reload on the Lee progressive. The 10MM, .44 mag, .45 ACP and .223 dies all have an autodisc set up on them.

SSN VET,

If you're going to be reloading progressively with a Lee, your press will come with a Perfect Powder measure. If you're to be reloading with a old style turret, it'll come with a auto disk powder measure.

If you decide on the Classic Turret and are reloading pistol, it doesn't come in a kit and you'd be better off buying the Pro Auto Disk for it. Why? Because the Pro Auto Disk is the only of those three measures that provides case activated expansion and powder drop on that press.

If you are going to reload rifle, you can use the Lee Perfect Powder measure on that press, you will probably have to operate the measure manually, which slows you down a bit. That said, the Pro Auto Disk is a very good measure in it's own right, you'll just have to be more selective in the powders you use in it. It meters some powders much better than others. For extruded stick powders, the Lee PPM is hard to beat if you use it as directed.\

The Lee Auto Disk is their cheapest measure and works ok, but lacks features and durability that are very desireable the Pro Auto Disk has. For the little difference in price, I would suggest the Pro Auto Disk over the Auto Disk.

On second thought, as cheap as the Pro Auto Disk and Perfect Powder Measure are, I would suggest just buying both right off the bat, along with a double disk kit, a riser, an adjustable charge bar and a rifle die charging die. with this list, you'd have most of your powder measure needs covered for a good while.

Hope this helps,

Dave

The only problem I have is that mine leaks powder with H110 and such powders. It does fine with larger grain powders.

Yea leaking is one of the flaws of the Lee Perfect Powder Measure with ball powder. If you like the Perfect Powder Measure you'll love the Pro Auto Disk Powder Measure, it's probably their best. However, I bought a RCBS Uniflow on eBay for $30 with both the large and small cylinders to replace my Lee and for the price difference used it was a better deal. It doesn't leak and works great on extruded powder. I bought a powder baffle and on ball powder I never see it fluctuate and it only occasionally fluctuates .01 gr on flake powder. However, the Lee can't be beat on price!

Glad you posted, I went out and got one. Works perfect for the "stick" type powders I have. I can still use my RCBS one for ball and flake powder.

Sorry to intrude, new guy getting started. I'm ordering the Anniversary kit myself and this measure comes with it, as ya'll probably know. I'm wanting to try out H414 As I'll be loading both 7mm-08 and .30-06 as a starting powder to test the waters. Has anyone had any issues with this powder in the PPM as it's a spherical one? If so and if they are pretty bad issues, can anyone steer me towards a better powder that can be used in both without being a compressed loading in the 7mm-08?
Like everyone else nowadays, I'm on a budget here and not sure reloading is gonna stick long term to invest too much. ($400 total including component budget set) I apoligize if I did any thread hi-jacking.
