For those of you with cable/dish who get the Versus/Outdoor Life Network...

Anyone see the "Front Sight Challenge"? Care to comment?

Thanks,
John

I saw the show last week. it was fun to watch (I've been to Front Sight a few times), but I don't know how exciting it will be, for non-shooting folks, compared to other reality shows that have audiences, more hype and large money awards. many non-shooters, and probably some shooters, might think it is a bit slow moving.
and I don't know how many people will tune into that channel, as opposed to more well known ones such as abc/nbC/history channel, etc.

I saw it the other day, since I (and most others) don't have any full auto weapons it doesn't seem to be as grounded in the real world as it could be. I thought the layout was ok, although I'd prefer it to be run what you brung format rather then using the school weapons.

I did like the LEO whining about how civilians get to train anyway they want, which is apparantly why he thinks he lost. Am I wrong, or could he pay his money and go to Gunsight just like a civilian?

Saw it

I thought the prodution values were lousy. Specially for the non-shooters, they need to explain the games more fully, and describe the firearms being used. Ginsu info-mercials are better done and probably draw a wider audience.

It seems that they played into the "reality" TV genre, while incorporating real shooters and skills. Perhaps they could have just made it more like a sporting special, like the Olympics? I thought it as alright as a first effort, but am curious to hear what might make it better.

I'm pretty sure there will be episodes with handguns, bolt-action rifles, etc.

You mean the videography, audio and/or editing? Or the format itself? What would make the "production values" better?

That's a good point. The "reality" TV format is supposed to draw in non-shooters, but non-shooters have no frame of reference as to what is going on. Imagine an alien from outer space watching baseball or American football for the first time. "What the heck are these jokers trying to do?"

What format changes do you think would help?

Fast X,

Which begs a truncated version of an old joke about a Brit watching a baseball game for the first time. He was keeping up with the concepts well enough when batters were getting singles and running out grounders, but became confused when a batter received a base on balls and trotted down to first.

"Why is everyone else running so bloody fast, and this bloke just strolling?"
"Well, it's 'coz he got four balls."
"Hmmm...by Jove, I guess that would slow him down a bit..."

Back on-topic, I too felt the production values came up a bit short, and that the scripted dialogue (mostly Naish's) seemed stilted. If I weren't a FS member but was still a gun enthusiast, I'd still likely watch it, IF I had somehow heard about it. Perhaps things get better in later eps.
