What .22 to get?

I didn't realize that a LH version of the 452 was available. Dang you, I've gotta get one now. The 452 is a superb rifle.

I have absolutely no problem shooting my 10/22 left handed. Don't see that it matters. If you're looking for out of the box accuracy, I suspect the CZ is the better gun, lots of good reports anyway and I know the 10/22 is only about a 4moa gun in out of the box form, good plinker and even decent for squirrel hunting, but no tack driver. However, a match barrel/stock can turn that part around. Not sure pricing on the CZ. Every one KNOWS the 10/22 and smiths are not hard to find. It's an easy gun to "do it yourself" with, too. Just depends on your priorities, I reckon. I own a 10/22 and love it, but I admit it's no target gun out of the box. It works, though, every time I squeeze the trigger. I've got other .22s that are more accurate. The Ruger is just down right fun.

I suspect most will simply tell you the CZ is a better rifle....


....but I'd say start with the 10/22; you can customize it, have fun with it and have something to look forward to later.

Here's my opinion, if you can swing it, get both. There's a time and a place for both of 'em. You might as well have 'em when you get there.

I have 4 cz's and one ruger 10.22, if that helps you.

Ever consider a lever rifle? I just bought a Henry H001, check them out, the companys reputation is top notch.

That H001... that's the standard, isn't it? Not the Golden Boy?

I've been thinking of getting on of those myself, since the 9422 became ancient history... the standard version fits. The Golden Boy's okay... looks nice kinda like you'd expect a late-1800's rifle to look, but I can't get a good cheek weld with that much drop in the comb. I can imagine either one with a good peep or ladder sight though.

Get a CZ American and don't look back.

While I like both of your choices, I would probably prefer the CZ 452.

It depends. If you want a rifle, get the CZ. If you want a hobby, get the 10/22.

"...to have some fun..." Go with the 10/22. Long ago, before there was a 10/22, I bought an inexpensive($50Cdn as I recall) Cooey semi-auto .22 for one reason and one reason only. It didn't cost a ton of money to empty the mag as fast and as uselessly as possible. That same rifle has killed a bunch of ground hogs too though. Missed just as many. Sure is fun to shoot though.
Mind you, a bolt action .22 is hard to beat for tack driving accuracy with the right ammo. You'll have to try as many brands of ammo as you can to find the one or two any .22 will shoot best, in any case. With a semi-auto, not all ammo will cycle the action either. And the price of said ammo doesn't matter. With a bolt action, at least you won't need to worry about cycling the action. They're not quite the same as a semi though. No ripping off 50 rounds out of an aftermarket mag.

I've got a Marlin model 925 BA and I think it's going to be a shooter, but that's my 2 cents worth!

I love my used 22 cal.anschutz model 164 sporter I bought for $450 shipped to my FFL dealer,I topped it with a 2X7X33 BL elite 3200,its a tack driver.As mentioned in a post above,if you like lever actions look at the henery rifles.I bought a golden boy in 22 cal.the action is really smooth and its very accurate.

The CZ is a great rifle for the price, I'd get it. If you like a million aftermarket products and keep changing your mind on what you want, the 1022 is the way to go.

There really is not much needed to upgrade the CZ except the trigger/sear.

If out of the NIBox accuracy is critical, without question the CZ is the one to get. I've never had or have seen a stock 10/22 shoot less than 1¼" at 50 yds. A feat easily accomplished by the CZ. This includes the 6 out of 8 10/22s that I shot using the stock barrel and 7 CZs that I have .

But, as another had suggested, if you can swing it, get both. The 10/22 can be re-built to outshoot the CZ.
