model 1917.jpg I was on the official S&W website & saw the new model 22 & 22 model of 1917. I am a big fan of the fixed sight N frame. Have they reached stores yet?

"I'LL NEVER BUY A GUN WITH THE LOCK!"

Okay, just thought I'd throw that out there before fifteen guys decide to contribute that to the thread. We got you. No locks. Cool.

Anyway, these guns are brand new, post SHOT even, I think. I haven't seen them on on the shelves around here. You might check with your dealers and see if their distributors can get these guns yet. Failing that, try e-mailing S&W and ask when these guns will be on the market.

The Model 22-4 has been out since late 2005. I picked up this one, #87 in November of that year.

The M22 Model of 1917 will be shipping to distributors next month. My dealer already has instructons to get me a blued one.

Richard: is that the Thunder Ranch billed model? I saw one of those last night and quite liked it. Bonus was it was seeminly well-priced at $749. How does it shoot?

I think the "classics" are trickling in, but being sold at higher prices. I saw a Model 25 3" in blue last night for $899. Not sure what the non-Thunder Ranch 22-4 is going for, they didn't have one of those.

Yes, it's the Thunder Ranch model but unlike the first TR M21 (.44 Special) it doesn't have the large gold emblem on it. Just the Thunder Ranch logo carved into the top of the stocks. Mine is one of the first batch and the front sight blade was too tall. Rather than ship it back for replacement I simply filed it to hit my point of aim with my load of choice. It will dump six rounds of 230gr ball into around 4" at 15yds, fired DA from a weaver stance. I'm sure it is much more accurate than that but with me pulling the trigger that's good enough for me and fixed sights. It's been well over a year but as I recall I paid about $750 for it.

Here's my 25-14 that I got just about a month ago. Haven't shot it yet but appearance and handling wise I like it very much. Paid $830 including tax and background check.

Never fired .45acp out of a revolver. Is the recoil a lot heavier than an auto's?I like my 4" model 10 a lot & wonder why I don't see too many at the ranges. I wonder if I'll like the model 22 just as much.

I also have one of the early 22-4s and it's all right. Yes, I'd rather not have the lock but I don't notice it when shooting.

These retro-looking guns appear to be a winner for S&W.
