Life has had its downside lately. I'll spare you the details. However, work has improved somewhat, I even get two days off this week! The weather is cool and grey, what my Irish Grandfather would call a soft day.
With most of a case of reloads and a lighter heart than oft of late off to PGC scampered I.
To run immediately into Calliope who was just leaving. We chatted and she showed off her "New" 1100, with stock fitted to her. She then left and I did a few things before ending up at Range 7 with some plans concerning wobble trap, tight chokes and unorthodox firing points.
Alas, my plans were dashed after one round. Kasha showed up.
She's from Eastern Europe, young, looks great in most anything and especially good in shooting togs and holding a trapgun. Imagine the young Bacall giving you one of those sidelong glances while holding a Beretta top single.... She speaks with a cultured English accent overlaid with a touch of somethng else and turns heads all the time.
While she's not a total novice to shotguns, clay games are new to her and she's working her way through trap and wobble, learning as she goes.
She's a great person, but on a trap range she's a trapshooter magnet. 5 minutes after shooting our first round by ourselves we had a squad shooting and another just watching.
Her.
Needless to say, the audience was all male, ranged from early 20s to late 50s in age, and all were quite willing to advise her. She can shoot as well as most of them and better than some.
By this time, I had accepted the change in plans and was helping some of the males when asked to do so.
Kasha has a guru, an excellent class A trapshooter who's guiding her well. I don't meddle, too many cooks and all that.
I did suggest a flurry and explained how. Afterwards I explained why. She liked the speed round,My talk of sharpening focus and improving concentration through the exercise seemed to be received thoughtfully.
After, she thanked me and went to shoot some handicap with her mentor while I tapered off shooting one last wobble round before heading back.
As I left,I mused about the sociodynamics that allow few women to fully enjoy the shooting sports.
Some can't buck the old images.
Some choose not to based on unreal ideas of what kind of people like shooting guns and destroying things.
Some just don't want to deal with lots of men with advice on things they know no better than the women do.
And some refuse to go to the range because too many guys keep stepping on their hormones. Kasha had a previous mentor with this problem.
So guys, when you wonder why women do not shoot....
" We have met the enemy, and he is us.Pogo...
