First is a M27-2 with a 6" bbl. S/N is N652088
Second is a M60-7 2" Snubbie. S/N is BSK1763

Love those Smiths!

.41Dave,

I thought the M27-2 would be older than 1980 because it is pinned, recessed and has the full, checkered rib on the frame top. I thought I had read somewhere that at least some of those features went away after 1978. Of course, I could be wrong.

When did those features stop on the M27?

Thanks,
Greg

Realize that the dates for Smiths are shipping dates, not manufacturing dates. AFAIK, no one has actual manufacture dates, including the factory.

Deadin,

Good point. It makes sense...especially with a popular production model in a popular barrel length (6"). I'm sure there would have been many in the pipe line for quite some time prior to actual sale.

Actually, the P&R features were phased out in 1982, with a number of transition guns being made around that time with either a pinned barrel or a recessed cylinder, but not both.

I didn't know that the non-magnums were never recessed. That's just the type of info. I really appreciate getting from this forrum.

Thanks to all who replied.

Greg

Looking for Mfr Dates

I'm looking for information on a S&W snub nosed 38, top break. On the palm side of the butt is stamped what appears to be an "L." 46. On the top side, when open, of the cylinder what appears to the number 365502 but it is faded. The front fixed sight partially obliterates the Springfield, Mass USA.
See attached picture, I hope! Thanks for any and all assistance.
