I thought the M27-2 would be older than 1980 because it is pinned, recessed and has the full, checkered rib on the frame top. I thought I had read somewhere that at least some of those features went away after 1978. Of course, I could be wrong.
Good point. It makes sense...especially with a popular production model in a popular barrel length (6"). I'm sure there would have been many in the pipe line for quite some time prior to actual sale.
Actually, the P&R features were phased out in 1982, with a number of transition guns being made around that time with either a pinned barrel or a recessed cylinder, but not both.
I'm looking for information on a S&W snub nosed 38, top break. On the palm side of the butt is stamped what appears to be an "L." 46. On the top side, when open, of the cylinder what appears to the number 365502 but it is faded. The front fixed sight partially obliterates the Springfield, Mass USA.
