Hi, first time around the firearm section, but could you tell me about the GLOCK 23's reliability, saftey and corrosian resistance? I know they are far from the safest gun around, but I do know safe handling.
I would eventually like to purchase a autoloader, and this (to me) looks like a decent choice. I am, however, open to other suggestions.

I've carried my 23 for 7 years now. No corrosion, very little wear on the finnish (considering). Goes BANG everytime, but only when I tell it to. Recoil was never a problem for me, but some think it's "snappy". All around great gun for carry or HD.

No problems with my Glock 19, essentially the same pistol, just in 9mm. I consider a holster as a Glock's safety. I never carry or transport the Glock without the holster, thus making it "safe" by protecting the trigger.

Glocks tend to be corrosion resistant. I think the tennifer coating on the exterior metal parts help alot with that. Reliability has been great with mine. Have had it for 3 years I think, no malfunctions to date. My brother purchased a Glock 23 last month, and mine still looks as new has it ever did even sitting side by side with one straight out of the box. As far as safety is concerned, treat it like you do all guns and keep it pointed in a safe direction with your finger off of the trigger until you are ready to shoot. Gun safety does not have as much to do with the gun as it does with the shooter.

My G23 is by far my favorite carry gun. Tough as nails and reliable as heck. You can't go wrong. My safety is between my ears.

Glocks are more corrosian proof than my SS Ruger P345, which will get speckles of rust on the sights and safty levers. As others have said , just keep you finger off the trigger:D

though i prefer other models of the glocks, they are all, great shooters, reliable, accurate, and eat anything. as far as corrosian resistance they have quite posibly the best factory finish of any other maker, known as tenifer, though it will wear, it is a great coating and tuff. safety, guns and anything for that matter is only as safe as the biggest safety of all, that is what is between your ears. keep in mind the fundamentals of safe gun handling, and you will be good to.

i'll put my G23 up against any other brand polymer pistol any day of the week, durable, reliable, relatively accurate, good balance of capacity and stopping-power.

the G23 is also versatile: you can purchase many aftermarket parts for it, including barrels.

for example, kkm & stormlake makes 9mm conversion barrels for the G23. so you have a gun that will shoot 40S&W & the cheaper 9mm with the change of a barrel (use G19 mags for 9mm to cut down on feed problems).

corrosion is a non-issue with glocks and their tennifer finish.
in fact, out of all my years of gun ownership, the only gun i've ever had rust was a SIG that i purchase a couple of years ago (and don't get me started on that topic).

G23 = outstanding choice for personal protection

The Glock 19 and Glock 23 are my favorite Glocks, they fit my hand well and I shoot them well. I don't think you would go wrong with a Glock 23 as a carry gun.

I have a friend who has carried one for years in a Kramer IWB #2 on a 1 1/2 inch Kramer belt. It is concealable, fast, and reliable. All in all a great choice.

You'd be hard pressed to find a more reliable and corrosion resistant gun than a GLOCK. Your finger is the safety so keep it off the bang switch and it'll be fine. If you are worried you can go with one of the NY trigger modules to add some pull weight to it.

The glock 23 is a good gun and I love glocks well made reilable and practically corrosion resistant under all circumstances, however, in a .40 I prefer a Sig and/or HK.

JMHO.

Good gun, but if I were too switch over to a Glock I'd go with a G-19 9m/m;
as I just can't shoot .40 caliber weapons* worth a HOOT~! :uhoh: ;) :D

*FootNote- SIG P229. G-23, or G-27

However, of those three I managed too shoot the G-27 quite a bit better
than the other's.

My first and favorite glock was a 23 (then I sold it for a 27, for carry, and I regret selling one for the other). Perfect size pistol, may options for upgrades and accessories. Best all around pistol for SD in my mind, just wish I still had one...

The Florida Marine Patrol carries them as does the entire Miami PD....nothing but salt water and salty air and they have ZERO problems with them.

Hope this helps you.
