.35 Marlin

I like it. . . . .

but the ammo is not as prevalent as .30-.30 Winchester. Not hard to find on line and is very reloader friendly. .35 Remington can put a serious hurt on most anything walking around North America if the hunter does his part right. It is also a fun round to plink around with using reduced power loads.

As a Marlin lever nut, the 35Rem is one of my favorite calibers. Inside of 150yds, no deer is safe. Factory ammo is fine, but handloaders can make the 35 dance. The new Hornady LeveRevolution ammo extends the range on them. Although I haven't personally tried them. Good ole 200gr Rem CoreLoks are a favorite of those who don't roll their own.

It's sold around here everywhere. .35 is just about as common as .30-30, maybe more so. Note, I'm speaking of my area, not the entire country.

Everyone who has it seems to love them.

yeah, I think it depends on where you live how prevalent the ammo is. As mentioned, one could probably take any game in North America with one if the mood struck, though there might be better choices for the largest toothy critters who might do serious damage before they realized they were dead. I like the 35--it was my first centerfire rifle, that I unfortunately sold during my starving college days, but I recently bought an old used one for nostalgia and may just have to take it to the woods this fall.

I don't see .35 Remington as often in stores as I do 30-30, so when I find a deal on Remington 200 grain Core-Lokt, I stock up. Dick's Sporting Goods was selling them for $11 a box earlier this year. I bought a dozen boxes.

Marlins in .35 Remington are very under apreciated. ( except by their owners ). It does what it is intended to do very, very well. It deserves to be a lot more popular than it is. Easy to handload for and it will never become extinct..........Essex

As a 30/30 owner, I must say the .35 is a great caliber, big old heavy slow bullet. Kind of like a "baby" 45/70. Its not as far reaching as the 30/30, with its bottleneck design, but the straight walled caliber willl take anything walking, teeth or not. In fact, I would take it over the 30/30 as an around caliber. But since The baddiest thing around here is a bitch coydog in heat, I think I'm safe with my 30/30.

Welcome to the clan.
First, you've gone to the wrong web site to get the best information. Most are like the above poster that dosen't even know the .35 is a bottle neck cartridge !!! It has a case capacity of about 10% greater than the .30/30, and with the larger bore capacity, is a bit more effective than the .30/30. (Don't get me wrong, I too have had many .30/30's and have a darling that I killed more deer with this past year than the .35, only because it's a pound lighter than the .35.....)

Also, the .35 isn't as "slow" as they'd have you to believe. Most 200gr factory loads run about the same speed as the 170's in the .30/30. Again, case capacity is about 10% greater for the .35 and at equal pressures, the advantage goes to the .35.

If properly sighted in (2.5-3.0" high at 100yds), the .35 is easily a 200yd rifle which encompases about 95% of potential use in the US. This is assuming a 5" point blank value (max 5"high and 5" low).

For better info on the .35 go to www.marlinowners.com

I run the Remington 200gr Corlokts to ~2,250fps and have killed MANY deer and pigs with it. Enjoy your rifle. If it's as accurate as mine is, it'll outshoot most if not all of your bolt actions at 100yds for 3-shot groups.

A older hunting buddy of mine has an ancient Model 336 in .35 Rem.
The rifle is topped with a vintage Weaver K4 scope and believe me the rifle is a true tack driver.
.35 Marlins are hard to find as their owners seem reluctant to part with them.

35 Rem was a well loved favorite of mine, a great caliber for deer under 150yds. Then I bought a Marlin in 375WIN, and the love affair ended.

For 22longrifle:

.35 rem on the left, 308 on the right for comparison. Bottleneck rimless cartridge, that is a 150 grain psp.

Ok, Don't beat up the slow kid!

I was thinking of the 38-55. My ignorance shine through!

But its "barely" a bottleneck!

Contrary to what ballistics tables say, In 20 inch barreled leverguns 35 Remington will launch a 200grn bullet as fast and sometimes faster than 30-30 will launch a 170grn slug.

I've said this previously and I'll say it again. Ask anyone who has owned marlins in both 30-30 and 35 what is their favorite and 99.9% of your responses will be in favor of the 35. It just does EVERYTHING that much better than 30-30.

Plus rimless cartridges are easier to cram into a 336

But its "barely" a bottleneck!

Having a "bottleneck" is completely irrelevant. The 35 rem is faster with all bullet weights that are shared with 30-30. It will hit game harder at all reasonable levergun ranges than 30-30.
