What do you consider "Must-Have" Milsurps?

Somebody mentioned British Enfields being awkward for left-handed shooters... I shoot left-handed because I'm left-eye dominant. I don't feel like the right-handed bolt's that big a deal. I like the British Enfields quite well... they're a lot more rifle than some of the other models. I like my K98k and VZ-24 real well too... they're another one that feels like it's built like a tank and the round hits hard downrange. But my favorite non-British military rifle is my M1 Garand. That said, I keep saying I'm gonna get a K31 as soon as I can afford it.

The ones I don't care for... SKS, AK, Mosin Nagant, FAL (and clones), and several others. I've seen a Japanese rifle or two and didn't much care for them either.

Top of the list is the venerable
1. M1 Garand
2. M1 Carbine
3. M1911A1 .45 ACP
4. M1903A3
5. M1911 Schmidt Rubin
6. K31 (it's offspring)
7. 91/30 Mosin Nagant
8. Finn Mosin Nagant

Good to hear some lefthand (eye) shooters are ok with enfields. I'm not, I've shot a few too. I like the gun from a mechanical point of view, and find them to be nice looking (a sure sign of the C&R disease) but shooting them is akward. I prefer a straight bolt but am fine with some curved bolts. It's a matter of personal preference.

All that you can get your hands on. :D

Which is why I have 2 Mosin Nagant 91/30's, a Model 44, a Model 38, a Finn Mosin Model 39, a Swiss K31 in Walnut and Beech, a 98k, a 24/47 Yugo, a SKS 59/66, a Turkish M38 Mauser, an Underwood M1 Carbine, an M1 Garand, an Enfield No. 1 Mk. 3, a No. 4 Mk. 1, and a Steyr 8 x 56R, a 1903, a 1903-A3, and a P17. I might have forgotten one or more here, but that is a problem when you start collecting in old age - you forget (No, I remembered now). Carcano's and Japanese rifles are scarce now unless somebody comes out with a supply of them somewhere, or I would have one of them, too. I wouldn't mind a Hakim or FN, but I just did not get around to spending as much as they wanted for them when they were really available.

The Doc is out now.

There's the whole other milsurp addiction too: CZ52, CZ82, CZ50, CZ70, CZ27, PA63, FN 1910, FN 1922, FN Hi-Power, Makarov's, TT-33, P38/P1, S&W 1917. Add to that the police trade-in's and Sig CPO's and it get's scary.

All of the above (if you want a complete collection)

PLUS a Dragunov SVD

What I would really love is one of those Japanese Type 02 paratrooper break down rifles. I never found one for sale unfortantly.

I do like my Type 44 Arisaka carbine though.

We can't forget a No5 Lee Enfield for the Lee Enfield collectors.

I had a neighbour who has an automatic MP40 from Germany. He died unfortantly and I am not sure if they sold it. It would still be out of my price range but was extremely fun to shoot.

To me, a genuine German K98 is #1 on the "must-have" milsurp list. It's the standard by which all others are judged, imho.

AK Clones are not Milsurp, they are wannabes.

My Ole who visited the pacific theater from 42-46 said:

"When yer in a jam, grab an M1 Garand..... It wont"
