For years I've been telling everyone "one of these days..." Well finally one of those days came and I can now add my favorite gun of all time to my gun collection! Ever since I was a kid I've always wanted one, and I'm very surprised its taken this long to get one:rolleyes:

Anyway here is my new Thompson 1927A-1 Deluxe! Came with everything pictured, 50rd drum mag, 30rd stick mag and a violin case:cool: All for just under $1180(+tax), not a bad deal I thought. Also came with a regular plastic hard case as well, but I didn't include that in the pic below.

Guess I'll need to pick out a good mobster movie to watch tonight to celebrate, any suggestions?

Anyway here are some pics of my new baby, I think she likes being in front of the camera:D

Band of Brothers or Saving Private Ryan. Lots of 'mobsters' being shot by good guys with Thompsons.

Great mobster movie with a Thompson - "The Road to Perdition." I think one of the all-time best movies for Cinematography. Conrad Hall is a genius.

Two great Tom Hanks movies where he carries a Thompson. I'm trying to think of the "Bosom Buddies" episode where he used one.

Thanks guys,

I think its time to choose something to watch, I think I'll go with Road to Perdition tonight and Ryan tomorrow. Been a while since I've seen either one and both are great. Strange those are the only two Hanks movies I really like:rolleyes:

I'll find out how it shoots this weekend, can't wait!

Enjoy the movie! That's the first movie where I got up and moved closer to the screen. Probably will not transfer to TV unless you've got a nice big HDTV system.

That is a NICE gun. Post a range report with some action pictures! A pre-shooting pic with the violin case (that is awesome!) would be great!

I am interested in hearing how the different mags function.

I also thought of "Road to Perdition" and "Saving Private Ryan" as featuring Thompson sub-guns weilded by Tom Hanks.

Although the GI's didn't get to use the drum magazines.....

I'll let you know, I'm curious also to see how the stick mag compares to the drum. The drum mag is pretty neat, but fully loaded I imagine its going to add a lot of weight to an already hefty gun. Besides that this is the first time I've ever had to refer to a manual to figure out how to actually load a magazine:uhoh:

LOL bump fire!

I just watched a buch of videos of people doing that on youtube, very interesting!

I could try but it might be difficult with such a heavy gun and with so much travel in the trigger, but then again I know nothing about the art of bump fire so I'm only guessing looking at how the people do it in those youtube videos.

That extra switch can add as much as $39,000 to the price of the 'Tommy'.

Congrats on you new shooter.

Congrats. It is always nice to pick up something like that that you have wanted for so long (I recently got an O/U 20 ga., which I had wanted since I first hunted with one over 20 years ago) and you sure picked a pretty one.

My favorite Thompson movie is the 1958 "Machine Gun Kelly", with Charles Bronson in the title role. His handling of the Thompson is masterful. The movie was directed by Roger Corman, another plus.

You have to see this, Williams! You'll learn how to dress authentically, and pick up a few 'moves' from Bronson! :D

Amen. When they are in the car driving across the winter landscape.....bleak, beautiful and compelling. Great characters an story.

To keep it on the original thread....beautiful acquisition.

Best,

S-

I always wondered why that was. I also want that type of Thompson ever since I saw Road to Perdition. Trouble is that even if I saved up enough money to get one, most stores in my state wouldn't sell me the .45 ACP rounds.

More like a "Chicago Typewriter That You Can Only Type With One Finger At A Time".

Stupid machinegun ban. I'm on board with any effort to repeal the damn thing.

+infinity. Pass the MP5's.:D

Back to the OP: How much did that Thompson set you back?

Interestingly, the Brits did use some of the 50-round drums in their '28's early on in the war.....

The M1 (The Saving Private Ryan version) is incapable of using drum mags. I think the reciever is slightly skinnier than the older versions.

And I can't believe no one mentioned "The Untouchables"!
