I was kicking around the local gun shop when I found a Hi-power in excellant condition(must have been a safe queen!) with the serial number T173335 made in Belgium fixed sight. I looked this up on Brownings website when returning home and found out this was made in 1967. I put the gun on layaway, but wanted to get opinions on if I made a good purchase or not. The gun was listed at $539, and was only able to get him down to $525. This being my first browning purchase, Did I overpay? Thank you for your time and opinions.
 
Hello. Assuming that the pistol is in like-new condition, you got a fair deal in my opinion for a T-series Hi Power.

A T series is considered to have the best blueing and finish of the commercial Brownings. It sought after by Browning afictionados. I think $525 is a very reasonable price based on the condition you described. You will enjoy it for many years.
 
Yes, well done. That's a fair price, especially for a T series. Enjoy your new BHP. Just be careful, they tend to multiply when you're not looking!
 
Is there anything special that needs to be done to protect the finish on the gun? I would say the blueing approx. 98% or better. I would be sick if I did something to take away the richness of the blueing it reminds me of my dads old S&W revolvers. This gun was definately bought to be shot, and is there anything else I need to be careful about concerning the Tseries browning.
 
They are pretty.

The T series I got was also a safe queen. I got out a bunch of cotton patches and went over it with a lot of clp and cotton patches. A fair amout of rust came off on to the patches but no harm was done to that beautiful black blue.

After it was oiled up and cleaned once this way there was nothing to do but look at it. They really are on par with the best of the S&W revolvers for the blue.

I sold mine but I picked up a MK III which I still have.

HP's are the most natural pointing pistol I have ever held. My MK III is definitely a keeper and one that I could never bring myself to sell.

The only thing I would suggest is that you get a shock buffer for your HP. Other than that just shoot it often and enjoy:D
