CCW in Seattle Key Arena during events?

I'm going to see Dane Cook on the 26th at Key Arena in Seattle Washington, and I'm wondering if any NWesters know the weapons policy and if they wand or otherwise check at Key Arena? BTW, I'm aware that carry is illegal at a "music festival" and I'm pretty sure a comedy show doesn't count.
 
so this is just a theory, your location says your US Navy. Few people say know when your CHL is backed up by your Military ID. Some would argue there are ethical issues with that.
 
I do not know Washington State Law. However, in many states a "Public Gathering" such as a comedy show, music festival, etc. is a no go for CCW. Does Washington State allow private businesses to restrict CCW if posted? Is Key Arena privately owned or does the city/county gov't. own it? Last, at almost any show like that they will use wands and/or free standing metal detectors at the entrances.

Regardless of what the law says either way I strongly doubt they'll let you in with a weapon. Look at the back of your ticket or go online and read the terms, conditions, and restrictions. I'd wager there's language to the extent of no guns, knives, or other weapons permitted, with possession of such being grounds for refusal of admittance or ejection from the venue.
 
It's only illegal at an outdoor music festival. Key arena is not outdoor.

RCW 70.108.150

And, as per RCW 9.41.300:

"Cities, towns, counties, and other municipalities may enact laws and ordinances... Restricting the possession of firearms in any stadium or convention center, operated by a city, town, county, or other municipality, except that such restrictions shall not apply to... Any pistol in the possession of a person licensed under RCW 9.41.070 or exempt from the licensing requirement by RCW 9.41.060..."

Meaning as long as you have a CPL you are OK, even if they forbid it.

And if they forbid it, you will know, because as per section 23-*31-*235 of Federal Law, they are required to post at all entrances.

BTW, I'm not a lawyer, and even is I was, I claim no responsibility if I am somehow wrong. It is not my job to interpret laws, and I may fail to interpret them correctly from time to time. You are warned.
 
Test case?

While gravis86 is correct on the RCW as far as I know, I am not sure if Key Arena has the same sort of public/private partnership that Safeco Field has going. Tickemaster lists guns at Safeco as being against the 'rules', but doesn't say anything about key arena.

I guess my point is that if they search at the door you aren't going to see your show, regardless of if it is posted or not. It doesn't say anything about it on their website that I can see, you might call them before the event and ask, just for grins (I would be surprise to hear "Bring your gun and your CPL.")
 
Key arena

Never done a concert/show at Key Arena, but I have been to several Thunderbrids games there, and I have never seen a sign posted, or been frisked to get in.

I no longer carry a gun when I go to the Tacoma Dome, as they do frisk/check bags to get in to one of their concerts.

That is at my wife's request. I am perfectly willing to take the chance that noone is going to find my Kel-tec in my back pocket, but, my wife has asked me to leave it in the car rather than 'make a scene' at the entrence to a concert.

When was your last game? I hold season tix to the T-Birds, and they always check bags and there is a sign at the door prohibiting firearms. I have seen wands used, too.
 
When reviewing the Seattle Center rules and regs I came upon this http://www.seattlecenter.com/information/sc_campus_rules.asp which states that concealed handguns are prohibited unless you are a CHL holder. Also, after contacting the management at Key Arena, they responded that CCW is allowed, but you must inform those at the gate that you are a CHL holder and you need to check in with Seattle PD and inform them of your seats during the event. So they can "know there is a weapon in x section":rolleyes:

Oh well, for those of us walking from the ferry to the arena and back at night, I think it's a pill worth swallowing.

At night through downtown Seattle....yep!!!
 
I've carried at several arenas in the area , they don't even ask . The only time I've noticed that they do screen for firearms is during Seahawks games and thats only because its the NFL's policy for games .
 
I take mine anywhere I'm not going through a metal detector, being patted down or asked to "turn your pockets inside out."

I drive an 18 wheeler and at the entrance to any military location, the security officials do a thorough cab search (including my lunch box) undercarriage search, engine search, and trailer search. Not once has anyone ever put a finger on me to search me physically.

Is it against the law to carry concealed while driving a truck? Yes. If you've been in some of the places I've had to drive, you'd carry a shotgun on a bandolier..

Am I a lawbreaker? Yes. Is there a higher law that I answer to ? Yes. It is called the 2nd amendment and by all rights that should trump all other restrictive laws regarding concealed handguns. Is there a higher law than that? Yes. It is called my God-given right to defend myself, family, and friends with lethal force, if necessary, against a deliberate attack on my life.

Yes, I am willing to accept the consequences if I am caught but not without a determined legal fight.

Politically incorrect? Inappropriate? Probably.

So your advocating breaking the law?

That is probably not a good idea.

Just because someone else does not check you or frisk you, does not mean you have the right to carry somewhere else (legally or illegally) in some of your cases.

or even during the day.
 
Most "searches" at Washington events I've been to are bag searches. Unless someone is using a metal detector or groping you, they're not going to notice.
 
I would not carry into an event-especially Key Arena. Doesn't the fact that they sell alcohol have some bearing on this, too? We have some of the toughest gun laws around...King County protects criminals. Personally, I would not do it. You are more likely to be an example made of, than someone defending himself. Seattle is NOT a gun toting friendly town. Face it, too...the carry laws are vague and open for interpretation. Maybe just me, I wouldn't do it.

I personally have a gun in my car and house. On my person it is mace and a knife. No right or wrong here, just what I do. I walk around that area all the time and never have a problem-but it only takes once!

Larry, you're killin' me here. Compared to California (or Illinois, Hawaii, Maryland, New York City or Wisconsin), this state is paradise.

Face it, too...the carry laws are vague and open for interpretation.

Larry, have you actually read the RCWs? The carry rules are fairly explicit. We've had a problem when it comes to the interpretation of the laws regarding open carry, but for concealed carry, the laws are clear.

Well, I can don't think life in King County is quite the same as Davenport Washington. I have heard a story or two-I know we are not as bad as a lot of places, but compared to where I have lived before...more laws. I have lived in Utah, Montana and Idaho. Those are easier (so I have been told) than here for laws. Bottom line, I sure as HELL would not walk into the Key Arena with a gun. If you took it to a bar afterword, wouldn't that be a felony? I have heard King County called criminal county. People don't walk into a bar in my neighborhood in West Seattle like they did in Lincoln, Montana-where I have seen holstered rednecks with a sheep mounting device attached:what:. Sorry, just a joke.

Overall, I think the laws are tough. Not sure of all the particulars.:p I hear that carry laws are different and construed in many ways.

You will need to make up your own mind on this, but you should be aware that the Seattle Police Chief and Seattle City Attorney are no fans of 2A.
 
Gun Laws

If the laws on guns are so explicit-why do I hear different takes on it from everyone. I have heard the gun has to be in arm's length, I have heard the gun has to be locked in a trunk...this is from people that SELL them. I have heard numerous contradictions. I am probably not the only one that is not an expert on gun laws.

I think a lot goes into play on how it is used or abused, too. Never know, might get a man hating female cop that is OTR and she could change your life. :uhoh::uhoh::uhoh::uhoh::uhoh::uhoh:
