Factory Quality Control and OAL variation

I picked up some plinking .223 ammo recently and I was very much surprised to find a significant variation in OAL within the same box of ammo.

See the attached photo.

I normally reload, so maybe I just never noticed this before, but I have to wonder about this level of quality control in today's day and age.

I would have thought that it would be better than this.

Looks like they didnt' seat that top one enough. Of course, it doesn't look like there is a crimp either so not sure why the cannelured bullet.

I would contact UMC with the box/lot number and see what they say. Might be worth a free box or two in the process.
