Does anyone actually stock a decent selection of them? Every time I order one online I get "It's back ordered 5 to 6 weeks" and then it takes like 12 weeks. Local gun shops don't stock squat. I carry a full sized P220 left handed and I have been waiting since the first week of November right now for an IWB holster I ordered, I was told today, maybe the first week of January. I am ready to blow a gasket.

I am so sick of waiting literally months to get a holster, and have yet to find one that I really like. Waiting 3 months for a holster and then finding out I don't like is ten times more aggravating than the amount of money I paid for it. I know that everyone goes through a bunch before settling so the cost is less important to me than the ridiculous wait.

Also does anyone dye their own holsters and what brand/kind of dye? While I am waiting I have an OWB holster that is brown that I would like to dye black. It would make it a little less attention getting when I reach over my head and the bottom peeks out from under my sweatshirt(I generally wear black jeans) and the muzzle is black. Is there anything special that I need to do since it is already a finished holster?

Have a look at www.kramerleather.com Give them a call and see what they say. If you go for any quality holster you will have to wait a bit. I'm right handed but carry a non-common semi-auto. Had to wait 4 weeks because they had to make it as they didn't keep it in stock. Give them a call...

first lefthanders

My father is a lefty as well as my sisters and my oldest
daughter. My dad's younger brother passed this last August.
His four daughters are all righthanded unlike his LH'dness.
So, when they gave me his Elk gun I was surprized as it is
a Savage 110 LH action in 7MM Rem Mag. They were surprized
I'm not a lefty. Hey, it's the first shot that counts most
right?

Oh, also my lefty duaghter has a lefty husband so my
grandchild has a pretty good chance of being a lefty as
well. So, I'm going to order a LH holster for my model 60
as it's a backup gun anyway. which brings this
around to

Milt Sparks - I ordered in late June - #AW200 with a
1.5 inch belt basket weave Corodovan for
a S&W 686P along with a plain belt and Axiom for a 1911
and the double mag pouch owb, and a single mag pouch
iwb. It was estimated at 24-26 weeks wait.

I'm hoping anytime before xmas.

Hey, ALessi - if it's out of stock at their distributor
it will be a 52 week wait

Both of my parents are righty, all four grandparents are righty and my sister is a righty also. But Im a lefty for some reason.

Ive shot a few right handed guns but I do prefer left handed firearms. Much easier to not have to use your weak hand, or reach across/under to turn off a safety.

Out of all the rifles at the store last weekend, there were two left handed. Both were Abolts, a 300 WSM and a .308. I left em both there too, I shot my neighbors Savage 300 one time. Great gun but Ill never pull the trigger on a 300+ without ear protection. So I dont care for those cals to hunt with.

Take your holster to a saddle shop or shoe repair store. They have the chemicals to strip the old finish and re-dye it for you. If you want to do it on the cheap, go to a Tandy Leather store, they'll sell you the stuff, but you'll have a lifetime supply and won't be guaranteed a nice job.

Re-dying a finished holster doesn't work very well.
The dye has a tendency to rub off badly, turning your shirts black.

Some standard shoe-type dyes tend to "silver" or take on an odd metallic silver-bronze sheen that looks weird.

You're better off just buying a holster in the color you want.
If you insist, use a solvent-type leather dye like Fiebing's and finish coat it with a sprayed-on coat of Fiebing's Resolene.
Resolene is a water resistant coating that helps prevent rub-off, and doesn't chip or peel off like many others.
It works best when sprayed on with an airbrush, and force dried with a hair dryer.

You can buy Fiebing's dyes and Resolene from Tandy Leather.

Everything they carry is still a minimum of 4 months out.

Yeah, that's what the site said when I ordered mine. They only missed by 3 1/2 months. But hey, you know best...

comp-tac? they make some decent looking ones that can be used either right or left handed

I feel your pain...If you are willing to go with kydex, I highly recomend COMP-TAC. I have ordered a number of holsters from them and recommended them to friends and never waited longer than 2 weeks. In fact I ordered one of their M-Tac holsters a couple of months ago and got it the same week.

The M-Tac is the MOST comfortable IWB holster I have, in fact I plan to replace my VM-II with an M-Tac.

Good luck.

gunjunky...When you do replace your VM-II, let me know the size, belt loops, and color. I'll probably take it off your hands!
