Currently Kragging..
Shot a doe offhand with my 1903A3 and some HXP 30-06 early in the season.
Followed that up with a doe from a tower blind with P17 Eddystone and later a K98 Mauser bring-back that had a Lyman peep on the back. Currently carrying 1898 Krag.
Last year; 1909 Argentine Mauser Carbine in 7.65, Jap Type 44 6.5 X50. Swede M38 6.5X55, Swiss K31 in 7.5, Garand, M1 Carbine.
Didn't get all the doe tags shot last year and won't this year, but next up are the Krag, an SKS, Chilean 7X57 Carbine, Trapdoor Springfield. Might try an AR15 shorty.
Passed a big doe Friday evening with the Krag. Just too late, overcast and dim to get a good sight picture. It's barrel is full length but its been sporterized with a peepsight on the back. That's the only time I miss my Ruger #1 7X57 with Leupold....of course, in others hands, the Ruger killed three does this year so far. A kid might take his first deer with it later in the management season.
Everytime I bought an old military rifle my mental excuse was that I might shoot a doetag with it one day. Now I am.
I killed a nice buck a few years back with an Argentine 1891 Mauser Carbine, the engineers model with the extra sling swivels. Got a couple of those.
