Wolf ammo scares the hell out of me...

I shoot a bunch of it through an SKS, and every so often a 10 round string sounds like this:

pop, pop, BLAM, pop, BLAM, pop, pop, BLAM, BLAM, pop

I don't shoot Wolf in any non "Warsaw Pact" type guns at all :)

Just my .02,

wolf ammo is cheap, especially in bulk. after having to soak a gun in cleaning solution to break up the build up after shooting 500+ at a practice day at the range. I will never shoot wolf again. plus shooting it feels like putting 3 different grains of bullets in a bucket and then shooting them randomly. I went through several that were just strong enough that it worked and then go to a couple that rattled me.

Supposedly a friend loves wolf in his AR15 but he loves to HAVE TO CLEAN HIS GUN after 100 rounds.

I would like Russian ammo a lot better if they would stop mixing pubic hair and sand into their gunpowder.

I shoot Wolf happily and frequently. I have never had a bad problem with it, although a batch of 9mm I bought once wouldn't feed right. Subsequent boxes fed just fine. Whatever. The argument about Wolf will rage on until the end of time, I guess.

whats really nice about wolf is it burns so dirty, and inconsistantly that you can scoop up the power in front of the bench and reload it.
This made me laugh.

Tried a box of this stuff before buying more, had a FTF at least every 10 shots if not more. The red sealer flaking and adhering to the slide-face wasn't nice either. Seems its a very hit-or-miss item. I think I'll stick with slightly more expensive and a lot more consistent WWB and co. ammo.

Shot tons of Wolf through my AKs and SKSs, never a glitch that I can recall. No dirtier than IMR 4350.
Bought a case of .45. My Kimbers throw it all over the place, but my Sigs like it better than any other commercial ammo I've fed them. Matter of fact my Tanfoglio likes it pretty well too, but its accurate with anything I put in it.
As far as cleanup, well, my cleanup menu includes some odd items by today's standards. Among them there is always a patch or three soaked in Windex just to allay my fears about corrosive primers. I probably over-clean - if that's possible.
Don't hesitate to buy Wolf for cheap plinking ammo and won't hesitate until I have a problem. Shot at least 3,000 rounds of the stuff.

I have shot a couple of boxes through my KP-90 Ruger. Worked OK, but was dirty and well......stinky.

Didn't try any in either of my Springfield 1911's

Wolf=Banned at my local indoor range, has been for years too.

I stay away from it, Blazer or WWB are the least my guns see.

Wolf is banned at a couple of the ranges I hit. I just bought a couple boxes to see whats up.

Oddly enough, American Eagle dirties up my guns worse than Wolf does.

Hey PirateRadio, have you tried that AE TMJ with the non-toxic primers? It shoots very clean, and inside of fired shell casings look sparkling new.

$0.02 from,

I don't think so.

I only get American Eagle at one range I go to because you get a discount on the range fee when you buy ammo from them. Usually they have Blazer Brass but that last few times I've went they've been totally out so I went with AE.

Sellier & Bellot and Winchester FMJs are usually my go to ammo.

The reason for that isn't what you think. The range can't sell steel cases for scrap. By requiring you to shoot brass, they make more money. :)

I found this to be the case too. I didn't shoot the AE version, but Federal's 9mm NATO with non-toxic primers and enclosed bullet. The spent cases are beautiful. Great for reloaders.

I don't like Wolf either, for all the reasons already mentioned.

The powder in Wolf doesn't burn evenly and some of the powder doesn't burn at all.

The least expensive, low residue and consistent ammo I like to use is Blazer, in either aluminum or brass.

ya wolf ammo stinks I had one not go off in my gun before looked like it was missing part of the center. They call it wolf cause it smells like wolf's pisss ...hehe

I don't trust Russian centerfire steel cased ammo. I've had too many people tell me of pressure problems. I have a good friend that actually reloads some steel cased ammo mailnly because everyone told him it could not be done.

I've always sort of operated under the idea of using Russian ammo in the firearms it was specifically designed for. I happily shoot it in my AKs, SKS, Makarov, and MN. I've never really had any desire to try it in Western firearms, and admittedly I have based that decision on sheer speculation and hearsay :).

I have only had one problem with wolf. It was a case getting stuck in my yugo sks chamber, but I just had to pull back on the bolt carrier hard. It is dirty, but for the price I don't mind. It is either $.20 for wolf or around $1 for brass 7.62x39 near me.

And I haven't had good luck with Blazer aluminum ammo. I shot about 10 rounds of .38+p and 2 had small cracks after firing.

I've never had a problem with Wolf 7.62x39 out of my SKS, good ammo for the money. Its reasonably accurate and fun at the range. I'll continue to buy it.

I only use Wolf for Combloc weapons like my SKS's, AK, and sometimes Makarovs, but can get 9x18 in other brands I like better.
