Forgot to add the question, was so happy photo worked. Trying to find a shoulder holster for this hand cannon. Any ideas of where to look without surfing out to sea searching?

100% not making judgement, but why do you guys buy these big guns besides hunting? Is it for pure entertainment/fun value or for something else?

thanks

Smith and Wesson had some nice shoulder rigs on their website last time I looked. I've got the twin to your revolver. Sure are fun, ain't they! I'm going to add a fiber optic front sight to mine this year.

I reload for mine. In fact, I've never fired a factory round of 500! I keep most of my loads in the plinker range, 350 grainers running between 1200-1400 fps. You can shoot those all day without complaint.

I have mine just for the fun of it.. You should see the crowd of people behind you when you turn around after running 5 rounds through it. It's purely for entertainment ... for me that is.

Congrats on your S&W 500 Mag, I have been shooting the 500 Mag for a little over 5 years now, I have had 2 of the 8 3/8 inch 1 of the 10 inch, a 4 inch and a BFR that I had customized to a 6 inch.
I have sold 3 of my 5 S&W 500 Mag to friends that want them. I have my 6 inch BFR and 4 inch S&W 500 Mags left with no intention of ever selling either. I have taken deer, hogs and black bear with the 500 Mag, what a beast. I have never had to shoot an animal twice. I use a 370 gr. hard cast bullet for most of my hunting, my 4 inch 500 Mag carries either 575 gr. or 700 gr. as my back ups. I have 2 extremely accurate loads with them two bullets in the 4 inch 500 Mag.

As for holsters, S&W has some of the nicest I have seen. I have a nice one from S&W for my 4 inch S&W 500 Mag. My BFR has one from Magnum Research, both are bandoleer style and a great for carrying the heavier guns.

Where do you buy you ammo? The largest grain I can find is 500 grain.

I have mine for hunting and shooting fun. When I hunt, I like to have a big enough gun, sure a 44 Mag will work for everything I have hunted. But I have already been down that road. I have been handgun hunting of over 25 years now and I like big bore guns. I have sold all my 44 Mags, 41 Mags and 375 Mags. I have taken a lot of game with them all, but there is just something about the 460 and 500 Mag that I like. And yes I have a S&W 460 Mag as well as 2 of the 500 Mags.
I don't do it for the WOW factor, because 90% of the time I am shooting or hunting alone. Sure once in a while I will visit the indoor range just to see the faces of the people next to me when I touch off the 500 Mag. But I also have had a lot of people come up to me and ask if they can try it, and I always have extra ammo I am willing to let others try my 500 Mags. What better way to get another person hooked on the 500 Mag. :)

Mine is purely for fun. However, I am taking an interest in bear hunting. I may try it next year. But for now, FUN!

I just shot a smith 500 last week.... interesting really. Shot it well too but can't seem ta justify one yet. My .45 colt 45/70 and .44 work good on anything I have run into. I however DO like the wow factor and know it well with class three stuff. If money was not an issue the 460 and or 500 would likely be here. The ammo costs are a big reason they are not here in the stable also...

500 Smith gun bearer

Try Rob Leahy at simplyrugged.com. He makes a line of shoulder holsters/chest holsters that are well made/bomb proof and VERY reasonable.

I really like mine...If I could actually pull the trigger more than 5 times without crying...:uhoh:

Still recovering after a range trip almost 3 weeks ago...
