CZ Fans: Can You Justify This?

A local shop has a used Sig Sauer P226 Bi-Tone (.40 S&W) with Crimson Trace Laser Grips for sale.

$640

Which, I think, most of us can agree is a great price. From what I've heard of torture tests, a used Sig is the frugal gun buyers' equivalent of a two year-old Toyota Corolla (but way cooler of course).

Also in stock is a CZ P01, sans Laser Grips, new. I would be adding the CT Grips as I personally wouldn't carry a non-bug without them, as well as Trijicon Night Sights, which which the Sig is already equipped. So after Laser Grips and Trijicon sights:

about $900

This will be my main "shooter" as well as my full-size carry.

Considering the Sig is going for about HALF of it's MSRP, I have a hard time justifying a CZ, as much as I want one.

I forgot about the addition of the night sites until I started this thread. I'm pretty sold on the Sig now, but you CZ fans are insane, so lets see what ya got.

why are you digging for a small internet fight???

the P-01 with crimson trace grips sells for about $700 new at the shop I go to. Add night sights for about $100...

so about $800 new, now if it was used it'd go for about anywhere from $600-$450...

and it's not a full size, the SP-01 is a full size and comes with night sights stock for about $600. Add crimson trace grips and it's about the same at $800 new.

Compare it new, Sig for $1200 MSRP or about $800 MSRP for roughly the same specs for a new CZ?
 
I don't have any experience with the P226. My wife and I each carry P01's daily. We have several CZ's and enjoy them all.. they have all been fantastic firearms.

I picked up a new P01 at a gun show a couple of weeks ago for $410 out the door. Obviously, this pistol didn't have tritium or a laser.

If the 226 feels right, meets your needs and is in good shape, jump all over it.
 
As johnle said, if you had all the features the P-01 has on a new Sig, the price of that Sig would be around $1300 easily.

I bought my P-01 new for $475 with no night sights. Another $80 for Trijicon NS and $60 holster isn't a bad deal at all for such an OUTSTANDING performing pistol. My Sig P229 cost me $765 with no night sights. That's quite a price difference for two pistols that are pretty much the same performance wise.

That being said, I love Sigs and CZs. Both have their own advantages and disadvantages.
 
I ask because after shooting over a dozen handguns, these two are the ones that I was most accurate with, and are also the two which I was most impressed with on a number of fronts. They also happen to be both readily available at the same local shop and I have cash in hand. They also happen to be quite similar in size and weight.

for me, i'd look really closely at the sig and if it's clean and in good shape...i'd get it
 
I think you can do better on the Sig price. Might not be 'bi-tone' or anything goofy like that, but I've seen a few for around $450.

You've seen used 226's with CT grips and night sights for $450? Where did you find this, as I'd be all over it. Hell a used 226 for under $500 without night sights and CT grips would be a deal to me, I've yet to see one under $550.
 
Yeah. The same shop that has this Sig has two used P226s for $500. Of course, as loki.fish noted, they are in fact 9mm variants without night sites or CT Laser Grips, also sans rail.

All three are things I very much want in my carry/HD pistol.
 
Got my latest Sig for $300 about six months ago. Took more than a year to find it...
But, what I'm wondering about is why are you so firm about CT grips.
Do you really want graphic evidence of how much your hands shake?
As for night sights, learn the Harries flashlight technique. A flashlight it a much more versatile and effective tool than a laser or glow-in-the-dark sights.
I find it rarely, if ever, mentioned that if your sights are the brightest thing in the room you can't possibly see your target.
Harries you'll see your sights and see your target.
Look into SureFire and Streamlight...
 
Had one of the first P226s into the country, couldn't hit a thing with it.
had issues with the K-kote coming off,Traded it for a P220..a little better. Went to the CZ75 and never looked back!
 
If buying now, and at that shop, is really important to you, and you're neutral / indifferent wrt the caliber, then it sounds like the Sig's a better deal for you.

OTOH, I've seen a lot of used P-01s go (online, not at Gander Mountain, sadly) for $400, sometimes less. If you were to find a base gun closer to that cost, I think it would (or at least could) cost way less than $500 to get CT grips and night sights.

So if it were me, and there was at least some flexibility on the time to buy, in this case I'd try to hold out for a P-01 with the grips / sights you want (or one of the two) and then add anything still missing. But a) even though I like Sigs, the 226 to me is less enthralling than the P-01 and b) since I don't have any guns in .40, but do have a few in 9mm (and .45, and .22), it'd be nice to not (yet) acquire a new type of mouth to feed.

Good luck in your decision! It's not like you're deciding between two *bad* options, eh?

Do you own any? Have you ever shot one?

I OWN HK's, Sigs, Berettas and many other fine pistols. The CZ is right up there with them or perhaps better. They are among the pistols I would never sell and are the ones I carry regularly.

Individual gunshops can charge whatever they want for what they sell. I have fired several differant SiG pistols, when I worked at a gunshop/indoor range. Wouldn't mind a P220, the only SiG that fits me. My CZ PO1 fits me like a glove, and shoots straight, every time. I saw the SiGs on the rental shelf break more than the CZs. Does that mean they are worse? Nope, but CZ works for me. I will buy another CZ before I buy a SiG. Ain't this country great, with all these choices in sidearms?

I have a Sig P228 and its a fine, fine pistol. However, my CZ-75D PCR is my choice for carry, and range practice as I find it superior to the P228 in every way. Its slimmer, smaller, with similar capacity and better accuracy and ergonomics for me at least. Again the Sig is great, but the CZ is better. Plus I can throw the .22 Kadet Kit on the PCR or my 75B and practice for next to nothing.
 
Yeah, I'm not sure how the cz is a second tier pistol considering that the job of both the sig and CZ is to fire bullets reliably. And, both are known to do so pretty well.

For me, the tiers are based upon functionality. CZ is top tier in that respect.
What is your tier system based upon if not that?

But, I'm also a penny pincher. So, I'd likely buy the Sig and see how it does. You can always buy a new firearm, but a deal on a used one won't likely happen all the time.
 
A local shop in SLC had a Sig REFURB 220 for 350$..perfect cond and a Kimber Classic 2 with a CTC grip on it for 599$, last week....Both were very good deals.

The MSRP you show is NEVER charged for CZ's unless you are in a very unlucky part of the country. Ive seen NIB PO1's with the CTC for around 550$....so
get what you want.

So in answer to your question...hell yes! I can justify it!

You guys are funny. Slowly becoming elitist internet gun snobs......Sigs are great, CZs are just as great...pricing is so close now that its a toss up. You fondle a gun in a gun store, read a couple of lines on a forum written by a blind, drunk who has a 3 legged dog named lucky and you think your all freaking experts!

Everyone makes great guns. All gun stores have screaming deals at times...some are so high priced I amazed that they are still in business. Thats life...........get one!

Bud's has CPO 226's for $500 OTD.

ABSOLUTELY. Why wouldn't I? It is the first step in going about fixing that problem, and if it can't be fixed, it lets me know how accurate I can trust myself to be at any given distance.

I also don't trust myself to be able to focus on the front sight if a guy twice my size with a tire iron perse, is running towards me trying to kill me. That would probably grab my attention, to put it lightly.

I agree, hence the rail and the fact that I already have a good flashlight. Having one critical aspect of accuracy glowing in the dark, should I need it, seems like something I want on my side, especially considering it takes no extra effort on my part.

YIKES! I obviously like CZs as I am considering buying one over a dozen different makes and models. I have four CZ pistols in specific that I would like to own one day. I understand that "you guys" are behind CZs for a reason.
 
"You guys"? What the heck is THAT about? Yes, I run czforum.com, no, I don't get PAID for it. I am not a company employee. And calling people who like CZs insane IS rude and inflammatory.
