What does Jerry Miculek carry concealed?

Probably nothing. Could you see the legal problems of a Champion Marksman in a self defense shooting.

No worse than you'd find for the intended victim in any "mugger gets rear handed to him by martial arts expert" story. In the vast majority of jurisdictions the authorities would likely chuckle and chalk it up to an EXTREMELY major failure of the victim selection process.

I'd probably expect him to carry a J frame when concealment is difficult, and a x25 variant when it isn't. Maybe somebody can ask the next time they come across him. I'd imagine he might be around the NRA convention.

I have to agree. Mr. M. is no more (or less) justified in protecting himself than ANY of us. It's just terribly bad recon on the part of the assailant.

But my bet is...it's a S&W. And he IS a gracious, generous (with his time & opinion) gentleman. IMHO, a fine ambassador of the shooting sports.

So you are actually saying that if one of those people that you mentioned could impart information that would make you better than you are as far as drawing your weapon in an emergency that you would not want to be privy to it?

I don't think that's the point. What he carries fits his needs if he carries at all and it's no one else's business, really. I think that's the point.

Now, Jerry teaches classes if you really want his input. I know I, personally, would LOVE to learn from the master! I fear, though, I just don't have the natural talent to ever get close to his level, but heck, you never know. :D IMHO, though, he is the best that ever was and hoping to come close to that level is a pipe dream for almost all of us. Just improve your own skills with what fits you in hardware. It ain't the arrow, anyway, it's the Indian. The OP question is about hardware and hardware ain't what makes Miculek what he is.

Jerry is so fast he probably carries an empty revolver with speedloaders and can load it and unload on the bad guy before he knows what is happening.

At the S&W IDPA match in February, Jerry gave a shooting demo. During the demo he mentioned he carries a S&W 10mm auto as his "truck gun". He mentioned a model, but I don't remember what it was.

When asked why not a 45 revolver (like the 625 JM) , he said he preferred a 10mm over a 45 since a 10mm was better at going through windshields and car doors better than a 45

He probably carries around a portable dvd player with a screen so that if anyone tries to mess with him, he can just show a clip of himself shooting then say "Are you sure you want to do this?"
:)

He probably carries, but would likely be held to a higher legal standard in court:

He's probably the only person that actually has time to make a rational, cool-headed decision as to whether to use lethal force :)

Whatever it is, I'm sure it's a revolver. Jerry ain't got time to wait for the slide to go back and then come forward on an auto, before he's ready to pull the trigger again.

Finally some actual info. Having seen video of him 3 gunning he is quite handy with an auto too. Apparently he doesn't reload an AR like a revolver, he just sticks a C-mag in it. Married into the Clark family I suspect he has his choice of slick 1911s to carry too.

bet he carries an auto, if he carries at all.

You're likely right. Even though at action shoots, he just sorta blows away the revolver class, the auto pistol guys beat up on his revolver times, the fastest, anyway, guys like Rob Leatham or McCormick or such, master class shooters. As wicked fast as Miculek is with a revolver, I bet he's even faster with an auto. He probably just prefers to shoot revolver cause no body else on the planet can match him with one. He's just another fast gun with an auto. Might have something to do with his Smith and Wesson contract, too.

Personally, I wouldn't take him on if he was armed with a .22 contender. Be the fool that did.

In his DVD, he's pretty clear that, when shooting a revolver, he starts "prepping" (i.e. starts pulling) the trigger as he raises the gun, so that the trigger breaks the instant the sights line up on target. Maybe all competitive revolver shooters do this, but I can't help but wonder if this doesn't get so ingrained after several hundred thousand rounds that it'd eventually become second nature to do even unintentionally in a stressful defensive situation. I'm gonna guess that if he does carry a semi-auto, it's not a 1911, then.

Ingraining reactions is exactly what the best competition shooters DON'T do. You can't shoot a match by rote muscle memory, not at that skill level.

Jerry shoots firearms other than revolvers and doesn't seem to have any issues adapting.

Jerry is so fast, he just waits for the bad guy to blink. Then he runs to Chuck Norris' house and he and Chuck run back to the scene and kick the snot out of the bad guy before his eyes open. Then Chuck gets back to Christie Brinkley and finds out Jerry was there while he was gone. And he's afraid to ever say anything about it to Jerry.

Awe, cummon, I was actually interested

Especially as I am one of the rare wheelgunners left in the world (not on par with him , of course) but still, I was interested in knowing what he thinks is a good CCW setup. Is he on the boards anywhere? 10mm? does he do the 610 thing?

As I said, he's likes the 10mm for use as a "truck gun" sinces he feels it's the best for going through likely obstacles like windshields and door panels. He agreed that the 45 is a fine round, but he feels the 10mm is a better choice.

And for those who think/thought he can only shoot a revolver. Shooting USA television show last night showed highlights of the S&W Laser&Light match that went on after the IDPA Winter Nationals. Jerry was 1 or 10 world class shooters invited to participate. He used a S&W M&P (they didn't say the caliber). He came in 4th or 5th (IIRC) and only a few hundredths of a second behind everyone ahead of him except the match winner (Dave Seviegny) who was a few seconds ahead of everyone else. I think Jerry is a world class shooter no matter what he shoots (including rifle and shotgun).

Since he has the job he does rather than work as LE i would assume he would carry anything he wants to , or does not carry as he wants to . Tho i carry , if i had his job of traveling all over speaking and shooting for gunrights i likely would not just due to the legal difficulty's for your average ccw holder .

I was going to ask who would win in a fight, Jerry Miculek or Chuck Norris?

I hear he carries an unloaded flintlock pistol. And still gets 3 shots off in under a second.

This is true too! My cousin's best friend's dog's groomer said that he did this in .8 seconds and killed three ninjas and a crooked nun!
