A couple of months ago in this thread we had a great discussion of hard chroming revolvers.

I picked up a nice condition but fairly worn S&W 10-5, and decided to have it hard chromed. I opted for Metalife which, to the naked eye, is the same as hard chrome but with slightly better properties.

I'm pretty happy with the Metalife, especially for the price - amazing bang for the buck.

The Tyler is a black aluminum one that I bead blasted. Only thing left is a decent looking set of grips.

Can't wait to get out to shoot it.

Sorry for the crummy pic's, will try to get some better ones outside this weekend.

There's something about the Model 10's that makes them ALL look good to me.....and apparently to you as well. I like that finish, I've thought about having that done to a few guns. Let us know (via photos, of course! ;)) when you find the right grips.

I had Ron Mahovsky give his Metalife treatment to a number of my guns over the years. Each one turned out great, with the finish still looking "factory fresh", some after nearly 30 years. And you're right; you can't beat the price as mine all cost less to do than having them reblued. One super tough finish.

Thanks for all of the positive replies.

Jim, I was actually thinking carbon fiber grips and a laser ;)

I had a plastic model 10 snub nose when I was a kid and since then I have always felt the model 10 was the standard by which other snub nose's were judged. The large K frame and square butt combined with a tiny barrel are almost a contradiction in terms and convey a truly "snubbed" look.

I have some Ace fake pearl grips I ordered about 6 weeks ago that have been waiting for the gun. When I got it home and installed them they were warped. luckily, Midway has an excellent return policy so they're going back. I may just end up making some in black Micarta if I can't find some I like.

bannockburn: it was your Beretta I think that pushed me over the top in the decision to go with Ron on the finish.

Black Micarta would look SWEEEEEET! I think I just came up with another gun project for when I win the Lottery I always forget to play..........:banghead:

I'm glad I could be of some assistance in this matter. The gun looks great. Enjoy.

Well, it's probably going to be fall before I have some time to dedicate to making grips, so I just bought a set of NIB Walnuts (before they went to the laminate grips) on eBay. They should do the trick for now although not the final look I want.

When I make them I will probably do green linen Micarta.

Pic attached of walnut grips..
