After shipping, tax snd FFL, I had less than $350 in the gun. My intention was to have my gunsmith chop the barrel to 3" and bead blast the gun. He currently is doing something similar to a model 10-8 for me.

I found a 3" model 64-3 parts gun for less than $90 and decided to pivot with my plans. I dropped the gun off a month ago and just picked it up. The 3" barrel was installed, the action smoothened (was stagey) and then bead blasted...for $80.
All in, I have about $525 in the gun. It has the barrel length I want, with an extra parts gun and a finish I wanted. I was able to spread out the cost of the project over a few months which helps keep it off of my brides radar. She doesn't mind really.

The pictures from tonight appear darker than it does in person due to the flash. I like the utility/satin finish. Looks "all business" to me.

I hope to shoot it this weekend and then start carrying it. As of right now, I plan on letting it wear the magna grips and Tyler-T grip adapter.

I bead blasted a 686+ 4” several years ago. The finish is a bit utilitarian but it sure improves older trade ins with scuffs and scratches immensely. (I have a Model 64 I got from AIM Surplus that looks like it was used as a hammer. It needs bead blasting badly!)

Your 3” 65 turned out great, excellent job .

Let us know how it shoots for you when you get a chance.

Stay safe.

I need to dig out my extra nickle T grip and find an appropriate grip screw for my magna grips.

Great Work! Question for you, why bob the hammer for holster carry? I had a 64 2" RB that was DAO. Never liked it as much as my Model 10 2", I felt like I was giving up an option. It was too big for the pocket and the hammer was never a problem IWB or OWB. The easy answer is it's the way I like it and I respect that, just wondering if there was a specific reason.

The gun was originally a DAO 4" gun re-imported. However, I had a DAO hammer installed my model 10-8. These are my carry guns and will be shot double action only. The model 15 still has the hammer so I can do some longer range, single action shooting if I wish. However, I shoot it double action mostly as well. I won't bob it because it is a range gun, not a carry gun.

Got it, again well done and enjoy. Be safe!
