I picked up this re-imported 4" model 64-5 this fall for about $300 off of GB. After shipping, tax snd FFL, I had less than $350 in the gun. My intention was to have my gunsmith chop the barrel to 3" and bead blast the gun. He currently is doing something similar to a model 10-8 for me.
I found a 3" model 64-3 parts gun for less than $90 and decided to pivot with my plans. I dropped the gun off a month ago and just picked it up. The 3" barrel was installed, the action smoothened (was stagey) and then bead blasted...for $80.
All in, I have about $525 in the gun. It has the barrel length I want, with an extra parts gun and a finish I wanted. I was able to spread out the cost of the project over a few months which helps keep it off of my brides radar. She doesn't mind really.
The pictures from tonight appear darker than it does in person due to the flash. I like the utility/satin finish. Looks "all business" to me.
I hope to shoot it this weekend and then start carrying it. As of right now, I plan on letting it wear the magna grips and Tyler-T grip adapter.
