Guns, knives, and watches.....

Odd I don't really have an interest in most of those things.

I do like knives, but I don't usually wear a watch and when I do it's usually my cheap Casio fishing watch that shows sunrise/set, moon phase and tide information. More function over fashion.

Trains don't do anything for me. I think most men enjoy older cars and trucks although I prefer new vehicles I do kick myself in the pants each morning for selling my '68 GTO.

Nice writing implements. That's a new one. I'm a computer geek so my writing implement is an HP4100 laser jet printer. I'll avoid handwriting like the plague because my writing is atrocious and when I do write it's usually simple print not cursive.

Workmanship. I've got certain tastes in guns, but even guns I don't personally like I can see the thought and design that went into them. Same with my appreciation for machinery. Seeing that someone was bright enough to design it and how it was put together.

I cried when I heard that, GTO I need!

I like Sigs, Fountain Pens, and old cars but I'm a college student so for now I have a Sig and a cheap fountain pen. I don't think I could just buy a garage queen car because I'd be seeing all the guns that I could buy instead, but if I had enough money to make an emotional decision a GTO might end up following me home.

I whine....

about wine, I try collecting it but usually end up drinking it. It's not strictly engineering but quality counts. I must insist tools, especially power tools as my vice of need as well as of choice. Cars come and go and trains have never been my disease but music has made me crazy. From LPs to 8tracks to cassette to CD to MP. I still have all these and play most. The 8 tracks are too evil  to play. Talk about bad engineering! Pens are okay MontBlanc makes a good product and my watches are two, one everyday, one dress.

Well, for me.....

I do like things like good pens and good pocket knives. I won't just use any old ballpoint pen laying around. I buy boxes of Uni-Ball Vision Elite pens and that's all I'll write with.

I love the Gerber "Gator" pocket knife, model No. 06069. Best pocket knife I ever found....affordable too!

Marine Ka-Bar is the best hunting knife for me. Anything more expensive may be bad judgement about what a knife is for.

Watches are difficult. My watch today is the cell phone. I cannot wear any metal on my body. It'll get broke, flung clean off, or misplaced, and besides, I do not like metal on my bod...not even a wedding ring.

What about you?:)

I'm not interested in much of that list. I have a good appreciation for old cars, and I agree with the idea that gun owners appreciate good craftsmanship. I go for motorcycles (esp cheap old jap bikes. I have a 1982 Yamaha Vision on my project list), airplanes (I fly for fun and Navigate for the Air Force) and beer(a good Hefeweizen on a cool fall night just can't be beat.) Of course, my hobbies rarely have a chance to mix.
I consider knives to be tools; less like guns, more like hammers. I have a watch that tells time; a $5 watch will do that just as well as a $500 watch, at least for my purposes. I am picky about my writing implements, but a 5-pack of Pilot ultra-fine's will do me for months. Those yellow twist-action mechanical pencils have a permanent slot on my flight-suit.
Trains are a mildly interesting behind-the-scenes utility device, and a pain in my rear whenever I try to drive anywhere(we have tracks running right outside the gate.) They serve a purpose, but I'm not terribly interested in them. The old ones are like lightsabers; elegant and from a more civilized age.

LOVE trains and would kill for a Breitling watch.

Then you'll love this.

My present to myself when I made a killer 3 million dollar sale two years ago.

My wife asked me what I wanted for my birthday, and I handed her the latest A.G. Russell catalog, saying "Just about anything out of this".

She took a quick look at it and said, "Don't you have enough knives?"

Is that even possible?

I like quality tools (Starret, Browne & Sharp, & Craftsman)

I have ( not wear) a watch because I need it to take pulses. I hate having anything hanging off of me. I carry my stethescope in my pocket.

I like Gerber Tools & Buck knives.

My favorite thing to collect is old books

Oh & I have a thing for 1911s M-1 carbines Mini-14s & damn near anything CZ

I allways meet other gun owners. All seem to also be interested in the following.

Knives
Watches, fine watches especially
Trains, most notably old trains either steam or deisel
Old cars, pre 80s and back to the early 40s
Nice writing impliments

Knives : Way too many. Gonna get more

Watches: Rail road Grade Pocket Watches. B.W. Raymond, Illinois, Howard series 11, Waltham, South Bend, Hamilton 992 and 992B

Old Cars: Does a pre emission control V-8 Chevy Pickup truck count?

Nice Writing Instruments: The Parker 51 is the finest writing instrument I ever used. Used to write 10 pages a day with the thing. Have several.

What about Swords? Not too many gun owners are into swords. Well that's OK.

Watches. Just added a Ball Master Engineer (60 tritium vials!) and a Zenith El Primero to the collection this year.

Knives, love knives. 3 Japanese swords & a wakisashi.

Cigars, love cigars. I have 3 'coolerdors' in additon to the 2 humidors I keep dislayed. Cubans? I didn't know that I couldn't bring these into the US sir!

Old peaty Scotch. Swiss, French & Spanish Absinthe.

Knives
Used to be, now anything with a zero thickness edge is fine for my steaks. Used to throw them, too. Just for fun.

Watches, fine watches especially
Used to be. Loved the mechanism, and I used to fix them if they weren't too broke. Got a Timex Datalink about 12 y ago from my son... you can program it off your computer, and that ended my affair with mechanicals. But you could only program it off a CRT monitor. I guess I'll retire that watch soon, what with the new flat screen monitors.

Trains, most notably old trains either steam or diesel
Ohh... yeah... I used to build model stationary steam engines when I had my machine shop. All them little gewgigs rotating and swinging and reciprocating in precise harmony.

Old cars, pre 80s and back to the early 40s
Yup. Haven't bought a car for more than $500 since 1983. Fave: 1973 Datsun 240Z I named Nymphie because of the green color. Still have scar from adjusting the front SU carburetor, which is right by the exhaust manifold.

Nice writing implements
As long as it's smooth and non-blotchy. But I had an RC Allen mechanical typewriter for several years plus or minus around college which I loved. Then the Selectric came out and I loved that after I got used to the delicate touch compared to the ergs one had to put into a manual keyboard.. (Took a typing course one summer in 1953 or so between high school terms.)

I'm particularly interested in none of the above (I don't dislike any of the above)... but I do have a few motorcycles.

I'm glad someone else (and it appears quite a few of you) have the same problem that I do. Strictly speaking, I think it's the catalogs.

For example, I love to look at watch catalogs--high end stuff, the more expensive the better. The reality is that I took off my wrist watch when I retired and I haven't worn one since. If you asked me what time it is now I'd give you the Jeremiah Johnson answer of "It feels like April."

Another passion I have is The Thompson Cigar Co. catalogs. I get about one per week. I love to look through them. I even buy good stuff for my friends.

The reality, I don't smoke.

Sniper, sweet watch!

I lived in Sacramento for a few years and used to love to go to the train museum there. They also had a train show in '01 I think and it was huge - trains and people from all over the world were there. The steam engines were running and it was like 105 degrees but it was awesome! Interestingly, I have never ridden on a real train.

Italic nib pens, nice compasses with declination adjustment, flashlights, knives, binoculars, watches, old cars ('49 Suburban), motorcycles ('41 Indian Chief, '79 Stroker Ironhead), the DO-335, oh yeah- cats, especially fluffy ones. Edit add: Almost forgot 211 Steel Reserve- m-m-m-m.

Hee hee, I've got bad gear joneses for optics of all kinds: telescopes, spotting scopes, riflescopes, binoculars. Also knives, swords, bayonets, bows & arrows, flashlights & headlamps, guns, ammo, reloading gear, and backpacks/fanny packs. To a lesser extent, watches, compasses, & motorcycles.

At 48
I like watches but have no occasion to own more than two and they can't be real high end because I'm too rough on them.
Knives are cool but I don't know high end from mid range, I prefer automatics there.
Trains never did much for me but old muscle cars sure get my attention. Prefer to hear a healthy exhaust note over a thumping sterio. New fast cars are just... new.
Motorcycles, as far as customs go I would rather see a home built bobber over any fat tired sculpture. Personally I like older unmolested Harleys but anything someone built, rebuilt or restored with their own two hands goes to the front of the class.

Old tractors and draft horses make me grin like a little kid.

My personal hobby

I noticed that true "Gun Collectors" also collect other things.

Me, just started with guns, I have a Rolex, a Movado, and an old Lionel train, restored Honda 1965. 65cc, Triumph Bonneville, and when my dad finally decides to get rid of, a 1952 Ariel Square 4, restored.
I also have a $1000 Radio Controlled truck, that normally just sits in the closet because I always break something.

eh, whatever, anyone wann buy an R/C truck?
I want to by a SxS

Did someone say SWORDS?!?

Actually you might find a few more of us out there than you might realize. The house is decorated in medieval armor/weaponry. Broadswords, main gauches, stilettos, short swords, spears, axes, morning stars, maces, war hammers, spears, bows, rapiers, tridents, helms, coifs, gauntlets, chainmaile, chalices, horns, hoods, doublets, goblets, tankards, and more! Oh and dragons...can't forget the dragons!

Fine watches....yes (from what I can afford)
Knifes, not so much, swords see above hehe
Pens, I love fine writing utensils
Trains, no not really
Cars, oh ya I am a car man. Not in the last 10 years mind you cuz the boom sticks take all my cash!

I don't collect or do that much with trains, but I love them. I love to travel by them, as well. One positive thing about England.
I'd also like to learn to do something with planes.
Cars- heck yes! Can't drive, yet, but it's always fun to be with my dad doing 100 in the Carrera S.
Pens- yes.
Knives- very much so.
I'm surprised no one has mentioned cooking. It's a very practical skill, and you can also turn out some tasty treats.
I don't have a good pub where I live, so I had to make my own fish 'n chips, and they were darn good.
Also, I like zoology.

Guns, Knives, Watches and Flashlights did you say?
