I dont no if this has been done befor, most likly has, but i sketched a lever action .44 with the stock sawn off and with a 9" barrel i think this would be a really cool gun to own, possibly a home defence rifle/or just somthing to tinker around with, would it be difficult to operate the lever?, i think it would make a nice saddle gun or somthing for hiking in bear country. any thoughs on this??

Pretty close to a Mares Leg.

You might can do it to a rifle in Canada, but in the U.S. it is illegal unless registered & taxed.

The one above is legal because it started out with a virgin receiver and so can be built as a pistol. Cutting off a rifle is a no-no.

The other problem with a 9" barrel lever gun would be the shortened tube magazine.

You would be reduced to probably a three round capacity.

how about a .44 revolver? smaller=easier to carry and it is easier to reload with a speed loader.

Ever hear of a guy named Steve McQueen? he had a sawed off 30-30 mares leg,in his role of Josh Randall, in the 50's TV western The Bounty Hunter.

I never missed an episode of Wanted;Dead or Alive(not The Bounty Hunter). It was one of my favorites as a kid in the '60s

rcmodel, what is the bbl length on that Mare's leg? And damn you all to you know what for providing that link. Now I *must* have one  :) - the only question is, .45 colt or .357 mag?

The one I linked to is a 12" barrel.

Steve McQueen's character Josh Randall on "Wanted Dead or Alive" used a cut-down 1892 Winchester in 44-40. That caliber was used so it could fire 5-in-1 blank ammo.

He carried 45-70 rifle ammo in his belt, strictly for on-screen visual effect.
It wouldn't even begin to fit in his gun.

T'wasn't really a .30-30, the gun in the show was done off a '92 Winchester (i.e., pistol-length cartridges only) and they filled the cartridge belt with dummy rifle-length rounds for visual effect.
