My FIL gave me a NO 5 clone built from a 1942 MK 4 by Golden State Armory. Very nice bore. Does any know if these suffer from the wandering zero problems of real number 5s?

Golden State carbine

What a nice example.I have a niche in my collection for Golden States,Santa Fe Arms models. These are hard to find. There were eleven Enfield models of Santa Fe sporters and Jungle carbines.
Look on the five round magazine and it wil say "Santa Fe" over "Japan".
It will be an excellent shooter.

As it's not made from the modified receiver of an original Mk.V., it should hold a reasonably steady POI. The main reason they walked around was the lightening cuts on the receiver.

Good looking carbine. I'm sure this one is a real shooter.

Most shooters of no. 5's don't have a wandering zero problem. At least you got a santa fe and not a gibbs.

As Sylvilagus said, a real No.5 receiver would have a lot of "unnecessary" metal removed by the lightening cuts. A replica Jungle Carbine made out of a cut up No4 should not have the same problem.

You probably won't have the "wandering zero," but if they left the full size Enfield sights on there instead of putting on the right rear sight for the carbine-length rifle, you may have to ignore the range markings on the rear sight while zeroing it in.
