my friend at work has a mkIII in .357 with an 8" heavy barrel, adj sights, and medallion grips. he asked me to look it up in gun traders guide to see how much its worth but the book i have says the mkIII was only made in 4 and 6" barrel lengths from 1969 to 1978. sn# is 49xxxL has this thing been rebarreled or messed with. if you can shed some light on this, let me thank you in advance.

The Trooper Mark III was made in 4", 6", and later 8".
It was made from 1969 to 1983 when it was replaced by the upgraded Trooper Mark V.

Number 49xxxL was made in 1979.
The numbers that year started at 33172L and ran to 55765L by the end of the year.

The Gun Trader's guide is usually priced low. That is the one I pull out to tell folks I'll pay book value.

Yes to the 8-inch. That barrel length was added late in the production period. I believe it came out after the Trooper Mark III 22 was introduced.

i'm trying to talk him out of it, it has probably the best trigger of any revolver i've ever held. he paid $450 about a month ago. i think there getting married soon :D true love.

She got a ring dint she? or is he going to use the money to get the ring.....either way he is throwing something beautifully away. Freedom and a gun.

My 6" Trooper Mark III is my primary shooter 357. I love the gun. It has a trigger that I'd put up against a python and I have owned pythons. They are worth the money and they are a lifetime investment in fine shooting.

Walkalong, you paid $500 for one? Was it Nickel or something? I have heard these going for that price but I just picked up an absolute beauty not long ago for $280. Too bad I didn't get the oil completely off for the pics.
