TV Scene that bugged me!

Was just watching a Burn Notice Re-run and had a scene that really bugged me.

Lucy Lawless plays an (Evelyn) assasin who is trying to hit a guy that Michael Weston is trying to protect. Well in the end Lawless is supposed to be about to take the shot it show here, a professional, who is lefty pulling out right hand bolt action rifle and set up to take the shot, lefty. I mean if she was really a big time assasin I feel pretty comfortable saying that she would have had a left hand rifle if she was a real "shooter".

I know its just TV, but it still bugs me! :banghead:
 
or my southpaw buddy using the sporterized '03 that he's hunted deer with for the last 40 years.
 
I've always been bugged by scenes where somebody is shot in front of a window and blood splatters all over the glass, but the window doesn't break (the scene at the end of The Shawshank Redemption where the warden suicides is a good example).

How the heck do you get complete penetration of the bullet but not have enough energy left to break a pane of glass?

because the script said to do it that way and the blood is really corn syrup and red food coloring....

It's TV, get out and do something other than glue yourself to a box that talks to ya. go play disk golf, read a freaking book, get hooked on World of Warcraft.... just turn off the darned TV.

Plus, the only thing good on TV is The Deadliest Catch anyway.
 
Jimi played a righthanded guitar because he didn't believe Fender could make a lefty as well. There just aren't that many lefthanded bolt-action rifles, and they're expensive. Even big-time assassins would like to save a buck or two!
 
I shoot lefty, and use all right handed rifles. It's much faster from a rest because the trigger hand never leaves the gun, and the support hand racks the bolt. Unsupported isn't a problem if you have the strength to hold the rifle just by the trigger hand when your support hand comes of to work the action. I think most people are strong enough.
If someone gave me a lefty rifle it would be much slower and take me time to get used to.

I'd also much rather shoot right handed because lefty rifles aren't as common. If I pick up a random gun, it is more likely to be right handed and means I will be comfortable with it. Of course this doesn't apply to a "professional" who can get what they want and afford it much more easily.

If I may pontificate and editorialize, or editoricate and pontifalize, there are a lot of shooting hints and tricks which are never promulgated because they go against conventional wisdom, against the way yer Pappy taught ye, and against the way instructors want you to do it... because it's "their" way.

I once tried out someone's left handed rifle on the bench (I'm right handed) and discovered the "mirror image" of what you found.

This was quite a while ago, and I've been kinda-sorta looking for an accurate left-handed varmint rifle ever since --not passionately looking, you understand, but if one fell into my hands I sure would run off with it giggling all the way.

I did all my varmint shooting with a bipod I designed and built myself, and there were many times when thinning out the thundering herds of prairie rats hereabouts that I wished the rifle were left-handed. All too often I would have found it more convenient to reach over the receiver of my right-handed rifle with my left hand to operate the bolt in order to not lose the positioning of my right (trigger) hand and elbow position, but you can't do that with a 12 power scope over the receiver.

These things just bug me for the same reason is bugs me to watch anybody do their job badly. Buggy software bothers me. Poorly made furniture bothers me. Stupid technical mistakes in television and movies bother me.

I'm far more addicted to THR than TV. Golf I'll pass on (wanton and deliberate misuse of a rifle range). Reading I do for about 3 hours a day. Toddler wrangling takes up what used to be video game time.
 
Fighter Jets aren't left handed.. and guess what, we have a lot of fighter pilots that are left handed, and damn good at what they are doing..

If a left handed can fly and master a F-15, i'm pretty sure we all can handle a wrong hand rifle. ;)

I'm a lot faster with tactical reloads on a pump shotgun as a lefty. When it comes times to dump a round in the chamber to load, I simply dump it in. No need to reach "under and up" trying to get a round into a hole on the wrong side of the gun. I understand several major PD's have discovered this and are buying left handed shotguns for their right handed shooters. The same principle applies to the AR platform. A lot of the malfunction drills are a lot easier, since you're on the "right" side of the gun. I don't even care about a left handed AR since I've been shooting right handed AR's for 30 years now.

Shung, I'm sure I could learn to shoot lefthanded if I had to, but what I'm talking about is using a left-handed gun as a rightie, as I mentioned.
 
I agree, it was probably a dumb mistake, but the flip side of it a left handed assassin might not always be able to get a 'clean' lefty bolt gun when showing up at a new local

also a lefty boltgun found will limit the field of likely suspects if just a handful of shooters are known to be lefties, this works with law enforcment as well as criminal organizations taking their own vengance.

One mistake I noted was that the israeli import guys/weapons dealers were said to have desert eagles, they had baby eagles. I figure that was a case of the director overriding the writer's script, because desert eagle sounds better than baby eagle, and most directors wouldn't know enough to say Jericho instead.

Or, it could be argued that a really high-speed/low drag professional type shootist wouldn't be concerned with the controls, since he/she would only need one shot.

I'm just sayin'...
 
I love this show....speakin of which the new season premire is on tonight at 10. I did like however how when in that episode, when Evelyn was chasing mike and that other guy around the house and she was shooting at them with what looked like a silenced 1911, it sounded realistic, not the pew pew you get in most movies with silencers
 
A right handed bolt, with left handed ejection, is becoming quite popular for right handed varmint shooters. (see the Savage M12LRPV, for instance). A normal left handed action would allow you to keep your firing grip while reloading. Sounds good to me!

I grew up using my father's left handed fishing reels, even though I'm right handed. I still use left handed reels. Just feels right that way.

There's tons of things I see in movies and TV about firearms that bug the heck out of me... this wouldn't be one of them. 26 shot 1911 magazines that don't extend past the grip, Recoil-less .50BMG's...

What really gets me is actors that make their living portraying gun toting heroes, who don't believe that citizens should have the right to own firearms.

I love Burn Notice. It's like The A-Team and Miami Vice had a child gave it up for adoption and it was raised by Macguyver and The Equalizer. Plus Weston sounds like one of the guys one Simon & Simon. Let's not forget the presence of Bruce Campbell and Gabrielle Anwar. It may actually be the best show out there right now. Even if it does get a little goofy at times.
 
I am a lefty and shoot right handed bolts all the time, you adapt, it's no big deal. Now watching a righty shoot my AUG with the left handed bolt, well thats is just tooooo funny, the cussin', the yellin' and yelpin', the wiff of hot brass and burning nose hair, ahhh fun and games with those poor rightys and a left hand bullpup.:neener:

Passed that, the TV thing I hate most is the auto pistol firing with the slide locked back. Mine can't do that, I want one of those open bolt 1911's.:cuss:
