Hi there

I am new to this whole gun thing and am very interested in learning more.
My hubby is very knowledgeable but I am looking for a book to be able to read on the topic.

Things I would like to know: the difference between the caliber of bullets, types of guns, etc..

I have looked on Amazon and didn't find much.(big surprise)

Do you have any suggestions?

Thanks!

All I can suggest is scanning these forums regularly and getting proficient with the search function. I'm not a THR agent or anything like that, but if you notice, any time you google anything gun related, thehighroad.org pops up at least in the top 20; and is 99% of the time more helpful than any other link....plus, the threads usually include tons of links too.

The best way to learn would be to take the NRA Basic Pistol class. It offers a good intro to firearms and the fundamentals of shooting.

If you really just want to study at home, the course book for the Basic Pistol class is available separately. It's a good into by itself, especially for things such as terminology, parts of the handgun, etc.

Here's a link to the book at the NRA Programs Materials webiste. Although instructor manuals are restricted to instructor's only, I believe anyone can buy the student book.

After you've read this, we can give you more suggestions for follow up

Welcome to THR.

May I suggest The Shooters Bible as an answer to all your questions concerning firearms. It is an unbias source for everything you addressed in your OP. I just looked in Amazon.com, and came up with this....

http://www.amazon.com/Shooters-Bible-2004-Standard-Reference/dp/0883172445

Even a used copy (quite cheap) would provide answers to your questions.

Hope that helps..........Al

Actually, an NRA Basic Firearms class would be ideal for you to take...also you may be able to shoot too.

Your local gun store or range can provide you a nice long lasting lesson on guns.
