Im am about to buy my first pistol. I am getting a Taurus 24/7 Pro compact
9mm. I posted a thread a few days ago and asked for advice. I wanted a good Plinker/ target that I could use as a CCW.
Has any one heard of any thing bad/ good with Taurus 24/7 Pro compact
9mm? And can any one suggest a good IWB CCW holster?:D

Probably not many Taurus CCW/Plinker owners here, but if it fits and suits YOUR needs, go for it. After all, handguns are a personal choice. You may not like the Sig, XD or Glock others would carry for various reasons. I would suggest you checkout the Taurus warranty/CS policies before the purchase.

Taurus has been improving their quality control over the years but it's still not the same as many other manufacturers.

smith & wesson 3913 would be my bet

congrats on your first pistol!

you probably would want to chat over on the taurus forums, taurusarmed.com or something like that.

there are many choices for IWB holsters, search first - then ask at the taurus forums.

good luck!

My first pistol was a Taurus 24/7 pro .40cal.... The reliability has been excellent. Only problem was when i first tried to take it down, it would get "locked" and my friend (a glock armorer) suggested to knock on it with a nylon mallet on the muzzle to get it "unstuck"... this went on a couple of times until finally it just started to take down correctly. Still don't know the cause of it. Anyways, about 5000 rounds through it. Runs flawlessly. I don't shoot it much anymore because I'm either practicing with my duty weapon (g35), my carry weapon (kahr cw40) or my rifles. I've noticed that it shoots alot different than the afore mentioned pistols so if I haven't shot it in a while, im pretty off target at 25 yds. I think it has to do with the heinie sights. I now use it as my home defense gun being that i live in a small apartment, I don't have to make a far shot. Back to the topic though, myself and my friend who owns a 24/7 pro 9mm (not compact) are happy with our purchases. Great price too. For the holster (even though I dont carry it) i have a cheap IWB uncle mikes holster.

I've never shot this pistol. Just want to say welcome to the forum. Good or bad experiences with your first pistol teach you alot. You may want more of the same or you may take a different path. Enjoy and learn.

Funny, the first pistol I bought was a 24/7 9mm....it was a pro, not a compact, but I haven't had a problem out of it yet. You will find a LOT of negative feedback on Taurus' stuff, but like otomik said, their quality control has gotten better. Their designs are solid, but I think their lack of QC in the past has bit them more than once.

Tried doing a little research on your intended purchase-Taurus has no picture on their site of a 24/7 9mm compact. I notice it says 10+1 rounds-the Millennium Pro can be had with 12+1 rounds in 9mm. Just a quick look/see shows the Millennium Pro having slightly smaller dimensions (better for CC), yet it holds more rounds-you might want to compare rounds held vs. pistol size (vs. caliber) before you buy?

Also, while 9mm may be better AFA cost to shoot, you might want to consider rounds held vs. caliber if cost to shoot is not high on your selection criteria. I bought a Millennium Pro 45 because of the number of rounds held (10/45 vs. 12/9mm). If the 9mm held 14/15 rounds etc, I may have gone with the 9mm.

AFA the gun itself, as many, I’m still a bit leery ‘bout Taurus quality but there’s so much to like about the Millennium Pro (and 24/7 compacts) that it’s my first “inexpensive” gun. If I were to step up a notch AFA quality, dependability, ruggedness etc, you might consider Springfield’s XDSC line (my main CCW is an XDSC40 with Pearce grip extender).
‘Course, with the Springfield you gain a little size and it has no manual safety (if that’s important to you).

I like a lot of the features of the Taurus-# of rounds held, size, manual safety, grip etc, but past reputation with quality does leave me a bit leery of the Taurus line.

BTW...if you are interested in the Millennium Pro, the website shows none with rails-don't know if they still make 'em as such, but mine does have a rail (I have the 2nd generation-think the new ones are 3rd generation).
