Ruger P90 and P345

Yes, they are interchangeable.
Some Ruger mags have a plastic follower and some have a metal follower. The P series mags with the metal follower hold 1 more round than the P series mags with the plastic follower.

:)Thanks Old School. I've had the p90 for about 8yrs now. Since I have a lot of mags for it and like the way it looks and handles I was thinking of getting the p345. Great choices in pistol, rifle, and shotgun ammo- Not sure why they make the others INDEED !

Yep, you'll notice that Ruger lists them as separate part numbers. Only reason is that the P345 mags do not carry the orange warning label about the gun firing with magazine removed. Only difference. Mags themselves will interchange nicely.

I have a P90 and 2 P345's. Great guns.

The P345 is a very sharp looking gun. I've had a P95 (9mm) for several years, and regret having not bought the P345 instead. Maybe one of these days I'll get one.

Accurate too:

From my first outing with it......

25 yds two hand unsupported:

Sights were a bit off on the first one. Had to drift them slightly.

Y'know what they say about us backwoods Carolina boys :p.

Seriously though I roll my targets up for the trip home from the range. Then when I go to take pics they want to roll back up on me. Have to stand on them to keep em flat. :D.

The 345 is a fine gun. My only problem with it (traded it) was that with larger hands I found the grip to be too small. Having a P90 it was nice to have the same mags for each gun. As I always have a minumum of four mags for each gun it cut my expenses considerably being able to use the same mags for both guns. Ruger mags generally aren't cheap.

I really dislike mine. After I found out it'll break if you rack the slide to spread a little lube, without mag in. I don't want anything that sensitive trading it today, for what I don't know.

I wasn't aware of that. I do know that you can damage the gun if you dry fire without the mag in, but just by racking the slide? Are you sure on that one?

You're trading a gun on false info. The P345 has had problems with DRY-FIRING without an unloaded magazine inserted not racking the slide. The popular fix choosen by many P345 owners is to remove the magazine disconnect which is located under the rear sight (a simple 5 minute operation). If the owner does not want to do that, then simply following the directions in the manual and only dry-firing the gun with an unloaded magazine inserted in it will prevent any damage. The P345 got a bad rep in it's early days because Ruger did not include this warning in the early manuals.

Another often repeated internet myth is that dry firing the P345 without a magazine damages the firing pin. It does not. The culprit again is the magazine disconnect which can get peened up and not move in it's channel properly causing it to get hung up in the engaged position after a magazine is inserted, relulting in the gun not firing.

If the magazine disconnect is removed, I would suggest keeping the magazine disconnect and it's plunger spring in your parts box. If you ever decide to sell the gun, reinstall them so that the next owner will have a gun that works as described in the manual.

I don't like magazine safeties but I won't get rid of a gun as accurate, reliable and dependable as my P345 over something that can be fixed by either following the manufactures recommendation of only dry-firing with an unloaded magazine in the gun or 5 minutes of effort on the owners part. :banghead:

I wil be purchasing a p345 in the future. Thanks for all the replies to let me know p90 mags are compatible w/ p345. The p90 is one of my favorites for carrying and for shooting at range.

Good choice mad hungarian! You're gonna like it alot. :) I plan on adding a second one to my collection at some point.

I was just looking at a 345 the other day. I didn't know ruger made such nice pistols. I was only familiar with the old P85 and P89. Those were some butt-ugly guns. The 345 is nice. I was shocked.

They are very nice looking and feel great in my hand. I currently have a P90, 2 P345's and just recently replaced my P97 that I foolishly sold earlier this year. All are insanely accurate.

Here's an example target from the P90. 15 yds. 8 rounds of my pet reload:

Thanks 12131 :)

Hey Rantingredneck do you mind sharing the recipe for the reloads that you used to shoot that group? That's some fine shooting too! (Where are the toes in that one? lol)

PM sent on the recipe. Will send more info when I check my notes.

That was a small notebook size target so I didn't have to roll it up and then didn't have to stand on it. :p
