The newest CTDirt catalog has a P90 upper for an AR.... Anyone see a reason for this, is that round that innovative? It looks kinda cool, ejects down the AR magwell. Anyone have any experience with this yet?

Its these guys

in its civi loading? no. in its overweight, semi auto PS90? no

in its SS190 loading, and its compact automatic sub gun layout, yes

in a AR rifle? why not just use 5.56. youv lost the weight benefit, and plain jane M193 will do a better job than 5.7

A fun to have toy, someone else posted about this here a while back. I think the consensus was that it was best if you already had a lot of that ammo laying around for your p90 and wanted a new toy.

It's a nice way to have 50 rounds of ammo without a c-mag and still being able to shoot prone. It's pretty cool if you reload to. Cut off the top of an AR mag and stick it in the magwell - instant empty catcher.

I don't know. I'm one of those people that thinks it's cool, but as with a lot of guns, there isn't much practicality involved.

Also keep in mind, if you have a registered MG lower, you would have something far better than a PS90, and legal as well.

I would think the same would apply to SB uppers, if you have a registered SBR lower.

As an aside, that website does not allow ordering. Where do you order them? I remember seeing them somewhere priced at just under 700.

Cheaper ammo, lower recoil, 50 rounds in a mag that is lighter and for reloaders, better way to use a brass catcher.

Downsides: Dillon does not make a caliber conversion for it, reloading will most likely be more expensive for brass costs, mags are more expensive, looks a little front heavy.

If I had a registered MG lower, and the connections to turn that upper into a 11" integrally suppressed lightweight, I'd be all over it.

Cheapest 1000 rounds of 5.56 ammo on midway is 370

Cheapest 2000 rounds of 5.7 ammo on midway is 700. That's with 40 gr v-max's too. Less powder, less bullet, and cheaper factory ammo for brass means that it's cheaper to reload too.

Very cool upper. I'd like to get one, but there are other things are on the list.

exactly your comparing a pistol caliber to a rifle.

if you went lb for lb ( or rather ft lb for ft lb ) to me the AR is still a better deal. longer ranges, widely available ammo.

I saw a pic of one in shotgun news a month ago. I think they are dam cool. Anyone know if they will fit on a bushmaster carbon 15 lower?

Hoppy, very few ranges I know are over 100 yards. I consider myself lucky to be near a 100m indoor range. This upper would be a very fun toy inside 200 yards. Cheaper to shoot, means more practice, which is always good.

Are there any brass catchers made yet which fit up into the magwell?

Actually, it wouldn't matter. It shouldn't be hard to make one. Take the plate off a normal AR mag, and tape a small plastic bag on. To reinforce it and add strength, maybe tape a brown paper bag over that.

Granted, simply buying a nice one wouldn't bug me.

9mm upper or .22 conversion would be even cheaper, both to buy and shoot. im not trying to tell you not to get it. but to me its the mid ground between a rifle and a pistol round, with none of the benefits of either.

You can shoot wolf ammo all day long for $250 per 1000 in most AR's if you aren't picky about ammo.

If I had a registered MG lower, and the connections to turn that upper into a 11" integrally suppressed lightweight, I'd be all over it.

Now that would be very cool.

They should work with any standard AR-15 lower. I believe the only difference in the BM Carbon is the upper reciever correct? The lower is still a standard AR lower right?

Image below of the 7.62 Nato, 5.56, 5.7 and 9x19.

Shows why the 5.7 is a less effective round than a 5.56 if compared like for like

It doesn't have to have any practical use, it's just cool. And if it ever becomes a real product instead of vaporware I'll pick one up.

I don't hate the 5.7. But, if I'm carrying something the size of the rifle, I want the rounds to hit like rifle rounds. 223 has negligible recoil anyway.
