Which one is better - all around? Quality, ergonomics, reliability, accuracy (depends mostly on the shooter, I suppose)...anything else?

I have an M&P9L, the longslide version of the M&P. I looked at the SR-9 before I bought the M&P. M&P has a better trigger out of the box, the trigger curvature is very comfortable, and I felt the overall quality of the M&P was a little better.

Either way, you get a great gun from two great manufacturers that stand behind their product.

I'm not by any means a huge fan of either gun, but I have handled them both a bit. Of the two, I have only personally fired the M&P. From my own thoughts on the guns, and reports of others I trust, I'd say the M&P is the better gun.. maybe even by a good margin. To be fair though, the recall on the SR-9 might influence me a bit.

Beat me to it Hex...The recall would be a hesitation point for me as well...:scrutiny:

The Ruger looks pretty slick, and from my fondling in the gun store, felt okay. THe recall issue is a concern, but Ruger's trying to do right.

The M&P is two years on the market, has the bugs worked out, and have taken a good share of both the LEO and Civilian markets. Couple that with Smith's Customer Service efforts and you have a winner.

Between the two, I've only fired the SR9. The one i shot had the post-recall trigger group, which most say, has a better trigger than the original. All of my guns are SA/DA, so the trigger felt fine to me. The gun felt good in my hand and it shot to the point of aim for me. I liked the low bore axis, which was comparable to my CZ75. The sights were very easy to pick up. No malfunctions.

I have owned many Ruger's over the years and I've never had a problem with any of them. Never needed their customer service, so I"m not able to comment on that. If I were in the market for another 9mm, this one would certainly be on my short list. However, since I haven't tried the M&P, I can't make a direct caparison.

There is plenty of info. on the SR9 at the Ruger forum.

I have an early production SR9 (sn 3xx), and I like it very much. In fact, it is my current go-to gun for carry purposes and for local IDPA matches. And it is not like I do not have others to pick from...I have a large collection of carry guns and shooting guns from Kimber, Colt, Smith, Springfield, Taurus, etc., but the SR9 just seems the right combo for size, capacity, weight, shootability, and ease of carry for my purposes, at least at this point (I am always up for adding another gun to the collection!).

I own both...SR9 and M&P9c...

I like them both...great shooters, accurate, and problem free so far...

I have no plans to get rid of either...
