Due to the upcoming election... Is anyone else out there stocking up on ammo? More than usual, I mean? I don't think that the powers that be, or may be, can ever get my arms, but it seems that they can make it very tough to get ammunition. I am getting many, many more rounds for each of mine. What are your thoughts on that and how much ammo, per firearm, do you feel comfortable having around?

for me i am stocking up on reloading supplies. not just enough to shoot but premium bullets and such as well.

im stocking at least 1000 rounds for each weapon (not just caliber) that i can. eventually this "storm" will pass but the cost will be substantial.

get it while you can kids!

I have not been buying ammo specifically because of the election, however I bought enough ammo to make myself comfortable a long time ago. It is just liked canned food, eat the old stuff first and the new stuff later. As far as round count is concerned that is up to what makes you feel warm and fuzzy. I doubt I could fit all the ammo I plan to ever shoot on my property.

976 rounds of Greek 30 06 supposed to get dropped off by the white truck tommorow......at least I hope so....it's been sitting in Portland OR since 3AM Saturday...yikes!!

Please don't Panic: Right will Out

Merely 1000 rounds is adequate per caliber, so don't panic and don't over-react or over-reload gobs of self-protection. American commonsense will again put Republicans back into force, so we can go on with our lives as normal. But always pick-up spent brass, PLEASE, just in case.

I'm stocking up somewhat, basically buying 50rds of .45acp every 2 weeks (paychecks) and keep a few hundred turkey loads/buckshot on hand for my 12ga. Until I build my AR at the first of the year, thats it for now. After that i'll buy 1000rds of 5.56 NATO ;)

Good Question

What are you planning to do with the ammo?
I'm not trying to be sarcastic, it's just that if you are going to use it for hunting, think we are going to war in this country or what?
I do know if I have to try and stock up so that I can live the life that I am now living, then I never will have enough ammo on stock. I enjoy shooting when I feel like it as much as I feel like and with the weapon I feel like. So if our liberal "friends" ever take over and ammo and guns are made illegal or strickly controled we may need to make new friends. I am spoiled with freedom and will not give it up easy.
What say you?:fire:

Tamlin's got a good idea, I plan on stocking up but not as much as some might, I'll buy quite a bit but I plan on buying quality(ie brass) instead of milsurp and reloading equipment

I'm stocking up on reloading supplies and brass, but not for political reasons. I'm concerned about the skyrocketing prices of ammo and metals. We don't have to worry about the anti-gunners taking away our guns or ammo, the markets will make it too expensive to shoot. That's why I'm hoarding. Maybe I'm just nuts.

Yes, it doesn't hurt too stock up on ammo; just in case the wrong
candidate takes office January 20th, 2009. I predict that New Years
Eve will be a solmon one this year, without the continous gunfire that
is normally heard on such occassions. People will be saving their ammo,
as they tighten their household budget due to the economy and the
price of gas~! :uhoh:

Shoulda been stocking up two years ago.

Stopped buying any factory ammo at all except for .22LR's 2 years ago. Now I am buying bullets, primers, powder, and stockpiling brass.

I do not forsee a Red Dawn need for these items, but instead, when have we ever seen a commodity come down in price significantly once it gets up in price? Heck, if I had known the Wal*Mart .22LR Federal 550-packs were going to go from $8 to $14 I would have bought a pallet of it. I thought the little increases were going to stop, not continue.

I want to have a goodly store of lead and brass laid in at yesterday's prices, not next year's.

I Plan to shoot thrice a week forever till death overcomes me

Not Shooting is not a viable option. As UnAmerican as Pirogi sandwiches, I could not survive without knocking the centers out of Bullseyes. I also dislike Pasta of any shapes, personal problem. Nothing's actually wrong with me, I just like Bacon and Ribeyes and Venison fresh from the kill. Frozen meat turns me off; consuming no meat, I realize, will kill me slowly, like cigarettes. Vegetarian poop floats un-naturally within the toilet bowl. Meat made mankind brain-superior and our poop to sink naturally within the bowl. We, humans, are not vegetarians by nature, so how can we effectively fight nature? Where did the Brazilian beef from your last McDonald's quarter-pounder come from?

I'm working to stock on on all my calibers, but particularly .223 and .308. If there's a punative tax on ammo, I'm betting these two calibers will be hit hard. And if there isn't I can still have fun shooting them. :)

It is expensive to buy ammo here in Hawaii. I've been buying when ever I can at some discount but prices are creeping up steadily. I'm hoarding a bit as price of gas is also very expensive here in Hawaii and I just like to have good amount of ammo for all my firearms just in case the economy worsens even more.

If anyone thinks the price is ever going down, don't hold your breath. If you think they won't outlaw our guns and ammo wasn't around in '94 when the AWB went into effect. In the last year how many states have tried to pass ammo identification laws? I've been working on having a minimum of 10k+ of the five main calibers that I shoot, x39, 5.56, .45, 9mm, and .22.

This all sounds great BUT I have read that along with some of the gun /ammo grabbers plans comes a provision for non marked ammo having a "must be disposed of" date. Seems like a lot of trouble and gov't effort to enforce but nobody ever said the gov't was rational about enforcement of anything.

just took delivery of 3000 rounds of ammo for my S&W686-4PP

GOT TO BE READY WHEN THE WHIP COMES DOWN.

Government election??? Send in the clowns.

"Stocking up". Interesting words, and fits the appearance. My saferoom looks like a store. All items properly shelved. I don't keep a large supply for some "pending" ill future happening to America, other than rising costs of ammo. I buy as much as I can afford. Of the weekly uses, I too fire one box, and buy 2 or 3 boxes.

Here is the why to stock up. At present, the economy isn't great, and isn't horrid. It's falling though. As the economy continues to worsen, prices rise, and wages freeze, in the future I "might" not be as easily able to afford ammo. I view an ammunition supply the same as I view funds invested. Most of the ammo that I have, I have had for years. It is (on average) worth 2 to 3 times what I paid. Good investment.

Of all firearms I own, the greatest supply I have is .22LR. Oh sure, I have the "others", but in serious quantities, .22LR. Every hunter/shooter in America should have at the least 5,000 rounds of the preferred .22LR. Don't forget BBs and pellets too. No, I'm not joking.

American commonsense will again put Republicans back into force, so we can go on with our lives as normal.

Don't count on it. I would buy ammunition for your firearms as you have the ability. I pick up a couple of boxes of ammunition just about every time I go to Walmart. Unless you shoot a lot, it builds up fast.

Prices? Who knows? I doubt ammunition will get much cheaper. Why should it? It's selling now and will continue to sell.
