Concerning the S&W PD line...

Behave ? Which models/SKUs for comparison ? Is your concern recoil ?
Empirically, the 8+1 loaded weight of the #108283 [4 1/4 "] will be ~37.4 oz, the #108286 [5"] ~39.7 oz, and #108282 [5"]
~45.4 oz. The #108283 should have ~20% more free recoil energy than the #108282 model and the #108286 ~15% more with my 225 gr. ~850 FPS reloads. That said, I don't consider the .45 ACP recoil severe in the standard or PD models but the recoil in #108283 is a bit more. It is a no brainer that for carry the #108283 is a logical choice, as is the #108282 or other full size models for range use.
Play with the recoil numbers yourself.....

Lightweight frame 1911s handle just the same as steel framed 1911s of the same size, but they recoil slightly more with a bit more flip, since there's less mass and what there is of it is concentrated higher in the gun (the slide is still all steel).

They're much easier to carry due to the significantly lighter weight, every bit as accurate, but follow up shots aren't quite as quick (takes a touch longer to get back on target).

Here's a review on my SW1911PD. I was surprised to find that the recoil and muzzle flip difference between the PD and a steel Government Model was negligible. No difference in split times. I use a Chapman isometric grip.

The real difference I found was that the SW1911PD carries much easier, and I can shoot it longer because I am less tired from holding it up.

I agree with XavierBreath on that. Maybe if I shot a round out of my full size, steel frame Springfield then shot my S&W lightweigt scandium framed commander I could tell a difference. But shooting my 1911PD is really nice and feels just like my full size. I had mine bobtailed and added thin grips...here's a pic cause I can't help myself.
