Bobbed stock on Puma 454? Any thoughts?

What do you mean by "pistol grip"? That can mean a pistol grip stock like a Marlin 336 or it can mean a vertical pistol grip like an AK-47. If you mean the first, yes it can be done but requires a new lever and is probably not going to give you any advantage with a 92 action. If you mean the second, I don't understand how you can cycle a levergun with an AK style grip on it. Can you attach an example pic?

If you are good at woodworking, it shouldn't be much of a problem, but why? It will be tough to shoot that thing and recoil will not be fun with a PGO. If you try to shoot it like you normally would, you could very well lose a tooth That makes it a shoot-from-the-hip proposition, which is not ideal if you have a bear charging. Plus, the stock adds little weight so you might as well keep it as is. If I were actually backpacking (NOT CAR-CAMPING, etc), I would leave the rifle at home and bring the pistol and some bear spray.

You could experiment, but logically, I think the gun will be a lot more effective and easy to operate as it was designed.

I saw one of those 16" Pumas in 454 the other day at the shop and fell in love. The fiber optic sights are some of the best carbine sights I've ever seen.

Anyway, I'd suggest shooting 'er a bit once you get it and see if you still think you could improve on it with a new stock.

I think you'd be better off carrying extra ammo for the Bull. Otherwise, keep the full stock.

I personally like a shorter stock on a carbine/trapper type gun, and might get another pc of wood to shorten the LOP on it for carry, (think youth model) but would still leave it a shoulder stock. Shooting a "rifle" with only a pistol grip does not really get you anywhere.

Leave it alone

It already is perfect for the purposes you intend.
