So far I can only come up with ONE. Puma 94.

Are there any others out there that I am missing?

I thought certainly T/C would have something, but no.

Is there anything out there in .45 Colt that I could rechamber to .454 Casull?

Wants: 16"-18" barrel referred
Action: Doesn't matter much.
Reason: Deer hunting under Indiana's new "pistol caliber" rifle rules, and I already have a SRH in .454 and all the bullets/powder/dies.

No I don't want a 44 Mag... my second choice would be a .45 Colt, and I wouldn't have any trouble finding one of those.

New England Firearms has a single shot in .500 S&W, but no .45 or .454. GRRRR.

I also saw an ad for a muzzleloader/centerfire a la T/C, which would be great for hunting both seasons, but again no .454.

I need the same...

I need the same thing for the same reason.

The best I have come up with is the 20 inch Katahdin 460 XVR barrel for the TC. It can also shoot 45 and 454.

Most likely, thats what I will be using.

Or the Puma.

if y'all plan on using the single shot TC barrels, you have the option to extend the OAL of your cartridges (if you reload) so the jump from the shorter .454 Casull casing isn't as severe; since you will be doing the feeding, the OAL won't be as critical; the only downside is that with an extended OAL, the open space for powder burn is slightly enlarged and may affect pressure/velocity and terminal ballistics of your bullets upon impact;

good luck

Browning sold some Winchester Highwall or Lowwall pattern single shots in .454 Casull. If you could find one of those that a BPCR shooter had not converted to a period caliber...

So far I can only come up with ONE. Puma 94.

I think you mean the Puma 92. It's manufactured by Rossi and imported by LSI, and is a copy of the famous Winchester model 1892.

While it may be your only choice, don't overlook it. The Rossi 92's are excellent guns. They are compact, fast handling and strong. Chambered in .454 Casull, they pack a major punch, capable of launching 300 grain slugs at over 2,000 fps. I recommend sending any new model 92 to Steve Young for tuning. He's the "Rossi 92 Specialist" and has made a career out of fine tuning these little guns for performance and reliability. www.stevesgunz.com

There's at least one gunsmith that makes 454 conversions from model 94s. I'll try and find his name.

Couldn't find one by googling. I did find a couple of references to failed conversions due to the high pressure of the 454 cartridge.

I do like the Puma 92, but I held off buying because I heard the factory wood is not strong enough for the recoil of the .454 Casull. However, the action seems to be plenty strong, by all accounts, to stand up to the pressure of the cartridge. All this was discussed in great detail in another forum, but I can't seem to find it at the moment... :banghead:

What? Pistol Cartridges only in New England?

How do they define pistol cartridges?

I've seen XP100's and TC pistols chambered in rifle cartridges.

What comes first, Chicken or the Egg?

BFR makes pistols in some, well.. Calibers that I'd rather not shoot as pistols.

But if they're marketed as pistols, then 'isn't that a pistol cartridge'? Those same cartridges are available in many rifles.

Handguns shooting rifle cartridges are legal. bullet must be .243" or larger and case must be at least 1.16" with several exceptions like .30 Carbine.

Rifles shooting pistol cartidges are legal. Pistol cartridge must have a bullet of .357" or larger, case length between 1.16" and 1.625", so the .460 is out but the .500 is in.

The real point is that I want a matching handgun and rifle. I don't reallt want a .44Mag or a .500S&W. A .480 Ruger would be nice (really nice actually), but I'm already set up to reload .454/.45Colt. My next choice would probably be .357Mag.

Price matters to and a NEF single shot would be right up my alley -- they just released a .500S&W single shot that is flying off the shelves (The pistol caliber rule is new this year.)

BTW I found the muzzleloader rifle combo (would me hunt firearms and muzzleloader seasons). It's a Knight KP1. http://www.knightrifles.com/PressRoom/Releases/Knight-Rifles-KP1.htm but there are no pistol claibers.

edit: Thanks for the great links, JTW!
