How can I tell its a real russian one when I go look at them?

russian SKS will either be a Tula (star with an arrow inside) Izhevsk (circle with triangle and arrow inside) they will be dated from 1949-1956

Yugos are only marked with serial numbers (and the M59/66 has the obvious grenade launcher on it) all are undated

not sure about how those below will be dated if at all

romanian will have a triangle with an arrow (different from the arrow of an izhevsk)

chinese will have chinese characters and possibly a triangle 26 mark

albanian will have an longer stock and handguard that covers the entire gas tube

+ 1 for foghorn

I got rid of my YUGO SKS, grenade launcher and all. Heavy thing to tote around. I 've got 3 AK's to feed 7.62x39 to already, replaced it w/a Marlin 882 in 22 magnum, mounted a 4 x scope on it, turned it into a real tack driver. :)

I have a Yugo SKS and I love it, best $150 I have spent. Its a really fun range rifle and the ammo is cheap, Wolf runs about 20 cents/round. Since I have a 5 acre spread out here, it makes a good defense rifle too, or pest control.
