Questions on a 1954 Tula SKS:
Question #1 - What does the "CCCP 24XXX" number on the right side of the receiver mean? I don't think it's the serial #, because there is one lower down on the right side of the receiver.
Question #2 - Unfortunately, the SKS I'm looking at has been drilled on BOTH sides of the receiver. I know you can mount a scope mount on the left side, but why would the right side be drilled? Also -- Is there any good way to fill in the holes? I suppose I could put a scope mount on, but how do I fill in the right side? Where could I find an inexpensive US-made AK-style scope mount to keep the US count up? (see ? #3 as to why I need US parts).
Question #3 - It's been converted to a high-cap mag. Where could I get a standard Russian SKS mag inexpensively? The ones I find online are more expensive than new SKS (not AK) 30-rounders.
Question #4 - It's got a US nylon stock. Are there any places selling inexpensive Russian SKS stocks to convert back to original?
The key word here is inexpensive. I'm assuming the drilling in the receiver lowers it's value considerably.
Thanks!
