I am able to buy a NIB COlt 6920 for $1450, is that a fair price? I need to know soon whether or not I should push ahead with this. Is the 6920 a decent AR? Thanks.

the 6920 is considered by some to be the gold standard. it's right there with noveske and LMT.

that price is about as low as you'll find right now. most are around $1700 and i saw one the other day in a shop for 2k.

I don't know what the specs are on that but last time I checked DPMS standard configuration rifles were around $800. That has probably gone up but I don't think it's even close to that.

My personal opinion (and its just that) is that Colt ar's are WAY overrated and overpriced. However, the overall value that you should give any gun that you buy is how much it is worth to you. If the Colt logo on the receiver makes you believe that they are worth $1400 then by all means grab it up, but if you just want a reliable ar then there are a ton to choose from that are cheaper and arguably better. (for certain applications of course)

That's less than what my boss paid a distributor for the last four we got at the shop. They aren't getting any cheaper.

one sold in my local gunstore this week for $1800

I have not seen what makes Colt get an extra $200-$300 for their rifles but I am not an expert and my life does not depend on it everyday. If it is not out of the range you plan on spending it sounds like a decent deal.

Please tell me you have gotten a hold of that rifle. At today's prices, you won't find much better... those rifles are hard to get a hold of as it was... go for it.

There are certain features of the Colt that make it more expensive, such as the extensive testing that the rifles go through.

One reason....Colt.
Mil spec is mil spec, lot of makers are equal to the Colt, but the name Colt well give you a 20% higher resale value.
That sounds like a good price from what I have seen in the past two weeks. I noticed that hbar bushies that cost 799 last month are 999 now. AK's for a grand....come on.

colts are garbage. get a noveske.
LMAO. Colt LE69xx are still some of the best AR carbines made.

Actually, very few AR-15 manufacturers build their M4 clones anywhere close to the TDP. Very few makers even approach Colt on quality of components and overall rifle build quality.

$1450 is a fair price point for a Colt 6920. (I've seen price points this year for NIB 6920s ranging between $1250 and $1800 depending on location.)

What you get for it? As previously noted, and whether you agree or not, the light carbine gold standard.

the local range here has a dpms carbine for 1700 so a colt for 1400 is evidently a steal!

That is a fair price. I just bought one for $1640. If I had the money, I'd get one more.

Who knows what will happen politically within a year.

i agree they are getting more expensive as the days go by. i don't need a colt, and if i was gonna spend that much i would spend a little more and get a slr the grail as a matter of fact. colts are already pricy and the cheapest i have seen them for around here is $1600+

If it's still available at that price, get it before they raise it. It's a very solid choice. You can always buy other brands later, they'll be available.

Prices are going through the roof on the ig 3 auction sites for the 6920 & the 6721 Tactical carbine. If you check the ended auctions for the last 2 months you will see how much they have gone up. Local Gander mtn. has the Bushmaster A3M4 for 1009.99 on sale until 12-11-08 Good luck.

The gunstore has several @ that price. Funny how people think a DPMS 'Sportical' POS is anything close in quality to the US Army issue M4. Some people need their heads checked.
