I'm loading 9mm Luger for my CZ75 SPO1.
I'm useing 4.8gr of Hodgdon Universal with Montana Gold 124gr. HP bullets and std. primers. Brass OAL is .750"
Cartridge OAL is 1.20.
When I drop the powder it fills the case to a little more than half full.
The MGold bullets are .580" tall give or take .003.
I'm wondering if this is a safe load?

Thanks For Your Time

Compressed load? No problem until you try to compress it so far it interferes with bullet seating. It can actually keep the bullet from seating fully with a very compressed load. 6.3 Grs SR 4756 and 115 Gr bullets is a slightly compressed load and it shoots great. It fills the case more than half full, as do a couple of my 9MM loads/powders.

Is it a safe load?

This is a trick question because it has nothing to do with compressed loads.

Is it a safe load?

To answer that, go to the Hodgdon reloading guide http://data.hodgdon.com/cartridge_load.asp and look up the powder charge and oal for a 124fmj bullet. That's what tells you whether it's safe or not.

Have you shot these in your CZ? Will they load? I've always heard that CZs are length sensitive, and your rounds are longer than the 1.169" I usually see for max length. I usually load my Hornady 124gr FMJ-Enc bullets to 1.160" for my Berettas.

According to QuickLOAD, your powder is not compressed.

According to Hodgdon data and Speer #13 it is safe data.

A 9MM case "a little more than half full" is not a big deal.

Try 8 grs of Blue dot with a 125 jacketed or cast bullet, that load fills the case pretty much to the top and does not even make 30K psi. It makes a good accurate high velocity cast load with the benefit of low pressure. Just because the powder is compressed does not mean it's unsafe.

Not realistic loading

It may be a safe load, but it is not realistic loading.

• RidgewayCO is correct, the maximum length for ANY 9mm Luger round is set at 1.169" or 29.70mm. So first of all, a round at 1.200" is not going to fit into your magazines, much less your chamber.

• I shoot the Montana Gold 121 in my CZ P-01 and the OAL is limited to 1.085" max. Assuming a similar nose shape, your OAL will be in that same general area due to the CZ's tight relationship between the chamber and rifling, and due to your need to insure that the bullet is not engaging the rifling when the gun goes into battery.

Generally I find that RN bullets work out much better in the CZ than FP or any of the conical nose "target bullets". Most RM can but loaded at or near max OAL, thereby leaving more room for powder inside the case.

CZ 75 SP-01 and Blue Dot

"Try 8 grs of Blue dot with a 125 jacketed or cast bullet, that load fills the case pretty much to the top and does not even make 30K psi. It makes a good accurate high velocity cast load with the benefit of low pressure. Just because the powder is compressed does not mean it's unsafe."

This the same load I use on my SP-01. I worked up to 8 grs while trying to get the most accurate on 125 jacketed. Now on my cast 125, Bullseye seem to be best from my cast molds.

OAL is 1.11 for best feeding on my SP-01 and room for the Blue Dot.

You want a full case of powder, try 9.8 gr Blue Dot behind a 165 gr Ranier, in 40 S&W. This is a listed max load, but the case of almost filled to the top.
