Rails Lubrication

I use a thin layer of Shooter's Choice grease on the rails...just apply and rack the slide several times to distribute. If you can see grease oozing out of anywhere, you put too much. Wheel-bearing grease also works, for much cheaper.

While the grease does not lose it lubrication properties very quickly, I like to clean it off every 200 rounds or so. It tends to collect carbon deposits, brass shavings, etc. and become abrasive. I use automotive brake cleaner to remove the old grease.

I prefer not to use oil on the rails as it tends to migrate.

I use a small drop at the front and rear of the rails on each side, and then rack the slide several times to spread it.

I still have half a gallon of CLP I yoinked from the army, but all three of my cars use Mobil 1 5w30 synthetic, I might give it a try. Some guys have said some of the thicker motorcycle blends work better, I won't pretend to understand why.

CLP; thin film on all sliding surfaces and one drop let run down each rail. One drop on the sear/lockwork every now and again.

I have the third vote for this method. I also take a drop of CLP and use a small brush to paint the inside of the slide (not the breech where the firing pin comes through). Just so it's shiny not dripping. This had nothing to do with lubrication but makes the inside of the slide easier to clean. The gunk lands on the CLP instead of bare metal.

Mobil 1 (20W50) on internals and rails. Thick enough to cling and you can't beat the engineering behind it.

+1.

M1 20w50(VTWIN) is the shizznit, not to mention M1 10w40(MX4T).

I agree with Blue Brick. I have used a molly lube on a Norinco 213 since I got it in 1992. It is still going strong after over 55,000 rounds.

I quite greasing the rails on my guns. The grease seems to attract grit and lint in my carry guns. I use a light coat of Weaponshield on my guns. When that runs out I'll go back to Mobile 1 for all of them. It works pretty well for me.

I use the red Mobile 1 Synthetic grease as well. Never had any problems with it, and its still there after 250 rounds.
