Every new years eve some of the family get together and shoot at midnight, old family tradition. I was just wondering if anyone else shoots on new years. If so what do you use? I start buy saying this year I'll use my MK 3 Ruger and my KEL-TEC PLR-22,and my dad will use great grandfathers trap door Springfield (45-70).

I don't know if discharging a blank cartridge constitutes "discharge of a firearm" in cities that ban "discharge of a firearm." I'm curious if firing blanks is something anyone does at the tick of midnight.

Geolemer most people don't have rural land to do what your family does.

South of the border is where this got it's start. I look forward to it every year. orchidhunter

"Ringing in the New Year" w/gunfire WITH STONE-SOBER, SUPERVISED SHOOTERS FIRING INTO A PROPER BACKSTOP ON ISOLATED PRIVATE PROPERTY AT LEAST 1/4-MILE AWAY FROM ANY OTHER BUILDING, VEHICLE OR ROAD, AND WITH PRIOR NOTIFICATION/APPROVAL OF YOUR IMMEDIATE NEIGHBORS - okay, I MIGHT think about it...

UNDER ANY OTHER CIRCUMSTANCES, YOU CAN POTENTIALLY BE ARRESTED FOR FELONY ENDANGERMENT AND FELONY DISORDERLY CONDUCT. INNOCENT PEOPLE ARE INJURED AND KILLED EVERY YEAR BY CELEBRATORY GUNFIRE.

You decide if this custom is really worth it...

Yessir, headin' out tomorrow, SKS, Marlin 22 mag, 357, 40 S&W, 22 pistol and Remmy 700 .308. I figure I'll burn a couple hundred rounds easy.:)

I am planning to go hog hunting tomorrow morning (New Year's Day), so I checked the zero on my Sako Finnlite in 6.5x55 this afternoon. Does that count?

The mayor asked residents to please not shoot into the air tonight, but many morons will anyway.

I hope to go to the range tomorrow, if work will leave me alone. :)

All I know is that last year, I stayed awake feeling like I was in Beirut or Kosovo on a good day. WHY must people fire their guns on New Years' Eve?

(I live in the middle of a metropolitan area too.)

Used to.... Can't where I live now. :fire: It sucks. Hopefully in the next few years I will be able to shoot on my own property(when we buy a new house)

Ben

I've toyed with firing a couple rounds.....straight into the ground. However, it's cold outside, and I already have a head cold, and would rather ring in my first new year's celebration after turning 21 with a nice, cold brew with my dad (responsibly, of course)--and of course, since booze and firearms is prohibited, no shooting tonight.

The bullets do come down and there are lots of arguments that they couldn't kill anyone but I don't want to take that chance. No

I live out in the county. Lots of fireworks last night, and I think I heard a few muzzle blasts mixed in.... I myself sat happily in front of the fire with a glass of wine watching some idiot shooting a truck into the air.

no midnight shooting, we used to do that when i was a kid, me my brother and my uncle. Not anymore though. The first time for me this year will be tommorow.

Using firearms as noise makers is stupid and dangerous. Not to mention expensive. Our local law enforcet has been warning against this practice as every year there are reports of damage from stray bullets hitting homes and vehicles on New Years eve. Want to celebrate? Use fireworks. That's what they are for.

Heck, I'm not even up!

But my friends and I go shooting New Year's day. Have to get ready soon, right after I finish my coffee and read these posts! Happy new Year!:neener:

Plan is to head for the range at noon. I'll take a pistol or two and a rifle or two. That's a good way to start the year...making a little noise! :D

Thats the plan....but, the phone hasn't rung yet, things change.

Mark.

I did shoot last night, about 8 rounds, but i live in the middle of nowhere, with the nearest person (outside of my family) about 1/2mi away, so it is pretty safe, espically with shoooting into a hill. I also held back on all the drink last night so i could....:D

Nope. Rimfire isn't loud enough IMO, and my daughter was here, so I didn't shoot any centerfire.

I live in the sticks, so my neighbors made plenty of noise to make up for my lack of it.

No... Im also sick of the idiots around this city shooting into the air at night... Maybe with a proper back stop out in the country... My neighbor actually had a bullet land straight into his right shoulder one year while outside "I know what are the chances" but there are alot of idiots around here... For a second he thought he was having a heart attack then sat down and noticed the blood gushing from his shoulder...

My 9yr old daughter got to shoot her .177 pink air rifle with red dot. I got it sighted in and her first shot was dead on:what::D I couldn't do it even with the red dot. Mike

If by "new years shoot" you mean recklessly discharging firearms and wasting valuable ammo like a crazed Middle Easterner celebrating a martyr/murderer, absolutely not.
People get killed every year from such behavior.
