Living and growing up in rural America over 50 years ago I remember the many freedoms we had in bringing in the new year, such as my grandfather and uncles shooting their shotguns or rifles up in the air. It was safe since we had a large hill as our backdrop and all we did was fire in that direction. Since I was a very young boy than, I would place a bottle rocket inside the barrel of my daisy BB gun. No way I was going to let them out do me. I wore gloves so I would not get burned.
