New or Used

Personally i tend to buy used. From what ive seen used guns fall into 2 groups, mechanically sound and less than perfect finish or the "the damn thing wont feed, function or shoot accurately" gun. The latter group tends to have better finishes, because they were not shoot much. Most of the time a gun in the latter group has no function problem other than the previous owners inability to clean the gun or shoot it properly. If they do have real feed or function problems it is generally an inexpensive fix. But be carefull if you are not familiar with the style of weapon and its mechanics dont assume you can fix it easily. Just remember new guns can have problems too and you need to break them in properly.

I've never bought a gun, new or used that didn't work, and I mean that didn't work like it was supposed to. I know, when I get rid of a gun, it's not because there was anything wrong with it, it's just because I either got bored with it, or saw something I wanted more right then (I've come to regret most of those too).

For the most part now, I look used.

BTW. The Glock 19 is a good choice.

I always try to buy new.

I've opened up various used guns enough to see that someone meddled in there in places where they ought not be going and doing things to the gun that they had no reason to do it (like ground down sears). On one gun, an adjustible trigger had one of the adjustment screws broken off and the trigger was all out of wack.

So, I say buy new, but that is just me. I buy new, then I try not to ever sell it. It will always be my gun (until I pass it on to family or friends).

I have purchased many firearms both new and used and I lean towards used for several reasons.

I don't buy used unless I can save money. Here's the way I save money and assure myself that it is a good buy.

I have never bought a used gun from a dealer, because it doesn't usually save money (the exceptions are mil. surp. and some police imports).

I buy from individuals which means I can give them more than a dealer will, plus I don't pay sales tax.

I look for ANIB, meaning everything that the gun came with new is still in the box. I bought a used G19 one time, no box, one mag. and regretted it afterwards. Sold it for a loss.

In contrast, I bought a ANIB G30 that not only had all of the original stuff, but also had two extra factory mags. and a mag. pouch; all for much less than retail. One of the best buys I have made.

I look on boards like this for FTF buys locally, plus other local sources, but mostly buy from individuals at gun shows.
