Fitting guns in a new safe

Hey guys, newbie here. I decided to join after finding some great threads about gun safe lighting. But after much searching, I haven't found any ideas to help with my new problem.

I'm having trouble finding a good spot in the safe for some odd sized guns like the MP-5 and 18" Mossberg 500 w/ pistol grip.

I know I'll probably end up busting out the jig saw and making some custom racks, but does anyone have any pics to give me some ideas? I'm a perfectionist and can't stand just leaning them against the side, and don't have the room to dedicate a shelf to each one.

I had to cut out a custom fit rack for my gun cabinet for my shorter rifles as well. I'm sure someone will have a better way to do it, but I prefer the KISS method. (Keep It Simple Stupid)

funny, but i just got my safe and i am in the process of designing a better rack, espically for scoped rifles and a custom shelf for handguns. or a rack for the bacl of the door.

i'd really like a safe that was about 4 feet wide and i could lay all my rifles in lengthwise, not up and down. if it was 24-26 inches deep you could easily get 8-10 rifles per shelf in and if it was 60-72 inches tall about every 10-12 inches.. on roll out sliders would be ideal.

I'd either make another barrel rack and mount it lower down the wall of the safe, or build a riser at the bottom of the safe to get the butts high enough for the barrels to fit into the existing rack. You should be able to find marine carpet or something similar to match the interior of your safe if you want to cover whatever you come up with.

Several of my "long" guns aren't long enough to catch the barrel section of the rack. I just put an ammo box underneath the 3 affected guns.
Problem solved.

I had the same problem with my last safe. I ended up using some scrap shelving track identical to the track that was already on the safe walls. I just extended what was already there to the floor of the safe, and then popped in a few of the shelf clips and a small shelf. Now, not only do my shorter rifles fit, but I also have a bit of extra storage space below the new shelf for knives, bayonets, etc.

If the barrel is too short to reach the rack, one trick is to insert a wooden dowel in the barrel that extends to the height of the rack.

The 48", or whatever width works for you, safe with roll-out shelves can be built for you. Graffunder is a custom builder & will do that sort of thing. However, please do recognize that a Gruffunder is a true safe & our standard B7248 weighs over 2300 lbs empty. Therefore, they aren't priced like the RSC's you may be used to checking out in a big-box store either. But, if you've got a class 3 collection, you really should have a true safe to put them in.

I keep all of my short rifles and shotguns together on one side. I put boxes full of photos, important papers, etc. on the floor of the safe. Then I stand the rifles on those boxes, and it makes the rifles tall enough to fit in the correct notches.

As far as handguns, I found that the $4 white plastic coated dish drying racks found at walmart are the perfect size for handguns, which lay straight up standing on their slides. You can fit six handguns neatly side by side.

Thanks for the input. I'm going to try and make a step for the back row of guns, and keep my long rifles up front, as someone suggested.
