Greetings!

While I am as fond of my rifle as the next woman, and harbor some serious intentions to convert the moose who ate my herb garden into dinner as soon as I find a way to legally shoot him inside city limits, I know very little about handguns and less, being an Alaskan and not required to put up with that nonsense, about concealed carry permits.

For years I've detested handguns as a source of a lot of noise and no little pain - and four or five times of willingly trying friends' guns has done absolutely nothing to change this impression. But Oleg Volk is nothing if not a polite, persuasive gentleman, and so I've decided that if he's going to put the effort into trying to help me find something that won't hurt to shoot, I'll learn to shoot it.

Unfortunately, learning to shoot these things will require visiting him down in those uncivilized heathen lands of the Lower 48 where people willingly live in places with billboards, smog, actual crime statistics, inner cities, suburbs, temperatures over 75 in summer, required licenses to carry concealed, and "rush hour" traffic. I know I'm going to look like a small, lame female tourist, and therefore I ought to have a license that says I'm allowed to defend myself.

However, from the outside looking in, trying to figure out this entire tangle of what states recognize who with what and grant why, much less to whom or how much it'll cost, makes even less sense than trying to figure out the FAA regulations and legal rulings.

Does anybody have a link to a handy summary on concealed carry permits, a decoder ring for gunnie buzzwords, or a well-reasoned and fact-based opinion on what concealed carry permit would be most useful to get for carrying in Tennessee, Texas, and Louisiana?

Thank you!
