This is clearly THE hotbutton issue in the gunworld right now.

:)

I think .22 ammo will loosen up this summer, its the 9mm, .45, and .223 that I believe is gone.

Gone forever? Are the ammo producers going to stop producing it because it is selling like hot cakes?

It will be nice to see WWB 9mm at Walmart again, but I haven't bought any in so long.. years in fact. It's been about three years or so since any of it was sitting in my ammo cans. I think it has been expensive for a very long time. I used to buy the stuff for about $8 a box, when it went over $12 I stopped buying. Just seeing it again though.. I might be tempted..

WWB 9mm is going for something like $23.99 a box at Walmart now.

I was going through my ammo and saw a box that I bought 3 years ago. The price tag was $9.99.

The Gander Mt in my area has moved all the ammo behind their gun counter with highly inflated prices....I used to like the store but they just seem to be ripping off their customers.

While I believe in good old capitalism, I am leaning more and more toward agreeing on "bullet rationing".

I was at my local walmart here in central VA this evening, trolling for ammo (like I do every day). They had about 10 or do boxes of bulk 22LR (I only bought 2) and probably 2 cases of 9mm (don't need that) and one box of bulk 40 (haven't seen that in a while). Unfortunately no 38 spl.

The nice lady working there (who I am getting to know!) said they just got word from Walmart HQ that all Wally's are to start a 6 box limit on the desirable calibers.

I did find 50 rounds of .44 at a gun store today for $25, which I thought was a good deal. But before you get too excited, it was 44 Russian. Should be cool to shoot though.

Starting to see more and more ammo on these threads for sale, at an uh...hum, mark-up. Doesn't seem to be too out of hand though.

I think I will go kill some paper targets this weekend!

The last Wal-Mart I was in had a 6-box limit as well. The problem is that they aren't even getting that many on the shelves. From my observations, the warehouses have been sending out just a couple of boxes to each store (i.e. 4 boxes of 9mm Blazer).

The last Dick's I went into had a limit of 5 boxes.

I guess the bright side is that--as long as no anti-gun legislation appears--the ammo bubble will have to burst at some point in the future ...

I was at WM tonight and talked to a gentleman I know. Apparently "somone" is calling his buddies and the line started fifteen minutes before Tuesday nights .40 cal delivery ever got off the truck. Even with the new limit of six it was gone in ten minutes. I hope they all burn in h$ll since they didn't call me. :fire: X

i paid 19.89 per box of wwb 100ct

i paid 19.89 per box of wwb 100ct yesterday. I bought 3 boxes and left two for the next guy.

I'd rather have temporary high prices and a small available supply rather than low prices and no supply. That way, if I NEED a magazine full for self-defense, I will be able to obtain what I NEED for self-defense. Likewise, if I have sufficient stock, I can wait for supply to catch up to demand, or for demand to fall down to supply, and prices will normalize and I can re-stock. And trust me, if demand does not fall, then supply WILL increase.

What is not acceptable is for someone to buy a new caliber of gun, or worse, need a first gun, and not have any available ammo for his or her own self-defense.

And spare me the self-righteous "you should have seen this coming and stocked up like I did" BS. Maybe I did, maybe I didn't. That is not the issue.

If I am right isn't 2010 the year some states can no longer have ammo with lead bullets?

then you have the micro stamping requirements in some too....

I have been in 4 Wally Worlds in the past week looking for 9mm. First thing I noticed is that they now have a corporate policy that limits the amount of ammo that you can purchase in one day, 6 boxes is the total. They do not care if the boxes are 100/rds/bx, 50 rds/bx or 20/rds/bx.

Store #1 had WWB 100/rds/bx $29.97 limit 6
Store #2 had WWB 100/rds/bx $19.97 limit 6
Store #3 no 9mm
Store#4 had Blazer Brass 9mm 50/rds/bx $8.97 limit 6

The "box" limit makes no sense to me and why the difference in price?

Went to Outdoor World today in Ft. Lauderdale. Massive amounts of ammo on hand. Especially .223, 22lr and 12 guage. They had whole display shelves of each of those calibers. Also had plenty of target 40S&W and defensive ammo for all calibers.

They said they are getting more ammo in on Monday also, so I figure the run is about over. Bubbles always burst first in South Florida. I have plenty of premium ammo but I have been burning through all the target stuff. I restocked on everything.

Went to Bass Pro Shop, no non-defensive .45ACP on the shelf. They did have plenty of self-defense ammo on the shelves, and I picked up a box to celebrate receiving my CCW this week.

Seems it has now gone on to non popular calibers now also,Prvi Partizan 7.65 Argentine,French 7,5 and Swiss and stuff is out of stock by alot of places except those that charge sky high.

So now foreign companies aren't producing?,did someone stop the ships from sailing over here or something? What the hell is going on?,can't even shoot my oddball calibers now. This is becoming rediculous F*** it Im just not going to be shooting much for a while there is something strange going on and it isn't just panic buying seems more like gouging to me,when oddball calibers all of a sudden become scare and prices are jacked I'm just not going to fall into that, the guy that bought up all the ammo and is selling it for double on gunbroker can keep his friggin ammo.

I've seen plenty of ammo, of all calibers, here in my neck of the woods. It's a lot more expensive than it was a year or so ago, but it's still available.

Reloading components? Well, that's a different story.

Went to my hometown for Mother's Day today. Drove straight to Wal-mart to see if there was any ammo. WOW! A giant case full! Then...a sign......

Sorry, case is locked and we don't have a key.

When someone came to the counter, I inquired. The only key had broken off in one of the locks....So they were waiting on a replacement. But they still had SOME ammo. No handgun rounds but I scored 400 rounds of 100 shot boxes of Remington .22 lr for $6.97. Not a great deal but hey, 1st .22 I've seen in months. So I grabbed it and the one box of Federal 150 gr .30-30 they had....

If you think there is no ammo shortage, come to Idaho! All the shooters and hunters (about 90% of the population) bought everything they could get their hands on here. I live right next to a Walmart and they have tons of shotgun and centerfire rifle ammo but no .22 long rifle. 9mm, 38 spcl, 357 mag, 40 cal or 45 ACP. Its simply not there. I am even there first thing when they get their shipments and nothing is on the truck. One gun store here in Boise is selling Remington Thunderbolt .22 for $30.00 a brick! And the sad part is that he is selling it like crazy!

I'm glad I reload and had a lot of components and ammo before BO got into office. Personally I think everyone is going overboard with this. But on the other hand I cant blame them, especially if he jacks up taxes on ammo.

No matter how much this seems, or is off the topic, one prime reason I chose to buy a Lee Enfield "Jungle Carbine" weeks ago was that Samco had the .303 at about $.22/round. After ordering 1,000, then relaxed and looked at rifles (days after my order was placed, there had been no advisories of short supply, but all of Samco's .303 was "sold out":scrutiny:), knowing that I could then afford to shoot a very unique classic .

Because of ludicrously high US-made .30-06, .308 and Mauser 8mm prices back in late '07 and '08, I never allowed myself to 'fall in love' with any of the military rifles which require those expensive calibers, as their is constant Internet chat about no more cheap surplus foreign ammo available for them.

My wife and I just stood over the original 101st Airborne's fox holes near Bastogne and Foy, Belgium a week ago on a very interesting tour with a Flemish guy (who knows/has veteran's first-hand accounts). What a real shame that there is no cheap 30-06...couldn't Wolf/Bear begin to make a profit at about .30/round retail after new tooling and producing about one million rounds?

Some people were told by ammo distributors (or maybe gun show sellers) that some White House Cabinet member or lower-level appointee has tightened restrictions on ammo imports, but these comments might only be 'commercially-motivated'.
But the more fearful know that it all must be true, thereby helping to continue the run on ammo everywhere...same end result-profits from spreading anxiety by the bucket full.

At our local monthly gun club meeting I discussed with my dealer the ammo shortage. He did not see any change for at least the next six months in his opinion. His first conern was that there were a whole lot of new guns on order that would require ammo purchases for the new owners. Second he had a lot of people coming in that with green corroded ammo in their guns asking for new ammo like .32 and other now hard to get rounds. I have also read on Knox;s column that some oversea sources were destroying old ammo rather than selling it (UN influence) and that some former eastern bloc nations joining nato were going through caliber changes. End result, a continuing ammo shortage.

barnetmill: Yes.

I stumbled onto whichever website months ago that describes a British/Euro organization which, in order to reduce the flow of guns and ammo to unending guerrilla and other rebel/tribal conflicts around the world (i.e. blood for diamonds etc), pays eastern Euro nations to destroy huge heaps of the stuff.

Ammunition To Go finally has some 40 S&W in stock, but it's a bit pricey @ $29.95 for 50 rounds of Federal American Eagle or Speer Lawman. This is the same price I would pay for WWB in 100 count boxes at Wally's last year. It's nice to see it's available but I wouldn't buy at such prices.

Why do we have an ammunition shortage?

Brethren and Sisteren,

I had heard a lot of guys mention that there is nammo shortage. I had not been paying much attention to it because I would pick up ammo at gunshows and online so I did not experience the shortage. But it has reached the gunshows and internet ammo providers. I recently purchased a Sig P232 (which was very hard to find as well) and I cannot find any .380 ammo!!!!! None of my local stores have any. I went to the Tanner Gun Show just over a month ago and there was none in sight. I went to my regular ammo site (http://www.ammunitiontogo.com/) and they have none.

Questions:

1) Exactly why is there an ammo shortage?
2) Where can I get some .380 ACP and .32 auto?
