Would you join in stopping high demand ammo purchases?

I used to buy it for $85 per thousand eight years ago or so.

I did too. But I can't remember if that was Wolf or some cheaper (and possibly corrosive) surplus ammo. Wolf is cheap ammo, but at least it is lacquered well, is newly manufactured, and is non-corrosive.

AmI stupid or naive? Trying to stop the insanity!

OK, yesterday I went into a local WW and they had 2 boxes of 100 38 special and I bought just one (brings me up to about 400 rounds of 38).They also had 9mm but I don't use that. Today I went into another one and they had boxes of 38 and even some 38+P. Didn't get any today either.

I'm convinced, if we are a little less reactive right now, we might start some seeing some change.

I had the money, i could have bought all the 38 I wanted. What would you have done?

Got none of it, i don't have a .38 :D. If it were primers, i am not sure if i could pass that up, as a new reloader, i have everything i need to get started. But primers. I would not buy EVRYTHING in the reloading shop though, that would fuel the rush, and i am with you, buy less, and it may start to go down.

Heh, I believe things are getting better too. I seen a 50 ct box of .380 for $18 , and almost had a heart attack..... guess i have seen to many 25 ct boxes for $24.95.

Well done, I only buy one box at a time of each caliber I use. The local WW put up a sign about ammo limits yesterday and an employee told me it was only three guys buying all the Blaser 9mm and .45acp Blaser and Federal .223. Everyone else buys one or two boxes if they get there before these hoarders or gunbroker sellers.

I want to buy more sometimes but it doesn't feel right. Call me an idealist, I don't care. I do it to feel right in my own course of action not to change the world. I'd prefer not to get caught up in the hysteria and ensuing greed.

You made the right call, although its tempting, I think it helps calm the madness to leave some for the next guy. I got a box of 9mm today at Walmart for $8.97 and a 100 rd box last week for 23.99. There was more to buy but I left it for someone who needs it.............

Walmart's: Is it a rifle, handgun or shotgun shell?

Earlier today I went to Walmart’s on Chili Avenue in Rochester, NY to purchase12 ga. Shotgun shells. The clerk behind the counter told me they could only sell 6 boxes of ammunition to me and pointed to their sign.

The sign read: “Due to a shortage of ammunition Walmarts will restrict the purchase of Handgun ammunition and Rifle Ammunition to 6 boxes per person per day.”

I told the clerk this is not Handgun or Rifle ammunition but for a 12 ga. Shotgun. He said he was just doing as he was told. I said the sign is clear and does not reference shotgun shells. He then called a manager “Marvin” who asked how he could help me and I pointed to the sign and told him the sign does not say shotgun shells. He then called another manager (woman) who said the limit is on all ammunition. I told the manager then the sign is wrong. He said your right sir and took it down. I purchased my six boxes and left with disgust over their policy. Now he has no sign up for any amount of ammunition. Now he'll take heat again. Wow!

Seriously everybody if you really think everyone has the right to defend themselves than just send me a box of FMJs and I'll be happy!!

I have 50 rounds of .45, 50 rounds of 9mm and 50 rounds of .380 from Serbia. I think I have a hand full of .38 special.

Not much of anything. I can't even go to the range because it would cost me $50 for the lane and a box of 50 cheaply made rounds for just 15 minutes of shooting. Bang, bang, bang...well that was $50 dollars well spent.

Makes me mad to think there are people out there with thousands of rounds who are thinking "I don't have enough ammo."

Also just to mention Wal-Mart since every thread has Wal-Mart in it. The only handgun ammo I have seen in a Wal-Mart lately is .357 sig and .25 acp. If only I had a gun in either.

That's a waste of energy. Think about what you can do to improve your own situation.

If you think you really need ammo. 350.00 will buy you a like-new Tokarev TTC and a tin of 1,224 rounds of really nice 7.62 x 25 ammo.

Ammo is out there in abundance for certain calibers. :)

Well, I was at Wal-Mart tonight (eastern NC), and it looks like demand has finally outstripped supply here. They were completely out of 9mm; the only handgun calibers I saw in stock were .44 Magnum and .22 LR (even .32 ACP was gone). Plenty of hunting-caliber rifle ammunition, but no .223 and only one box of 7.62x39mm (Winchester white box, 20 rounds for $13.85 or thereabouts).

Egads. I wish I had stocked up more when 7.62x39mm was $1.75/box...

I went to three stores yesterday looking for 9mm: local gun store, Turner's Outdoorsmen, and Big 5 Sporting goods. Needless to say, I left all three places empty handed.

Ammo Shortage

Several people on this thread seem to think that the "Ammo shortage" is overblown. Well I just checked Cabelas, Cheaper Than Dirt, Midway, Sportsman Whse, a local chain of membership stores called Bi-Mart and a local gun store and all of them were out of .380, .38, 9mm, .357, .45acp, 5.56 and 308 caliber ammo, especially bulk except for some of the very expensive brands or specialty ammo. Sounds like a serious ammo shortage to me!

I've been trying to find Varget powder for weeks now, with absolutely no luck.

Anyone know of someplace where you can order some, and get it delivered w/in 6 weeks, which isn't outrageously priced like the GB auctions?

I was lucky enough to find a pound of Varget at the last gunshow out here, paid for it though, $30. I wanted it, so out came the wallet.

Bought some ammo at Wal-Mart yesterday!!!!!

Bought 2 boxes of 100 rounds of Federal .223, and 4 boxes of 50 of .22lr. They've got a 6 boxes total rule here. Anyone else had luck recently?
