I would say that that is a good price. In my mind any working firearm is worth at least $100.

The earlier version was a little more nice a design internally. The later version changed things slightly internally and it wasn't quite as good.

They had a bad problem with breaking firing pins, and with the inexpensive plastic stock and fore arms cracking.

They were a fun gun to shoot and very reliable.

Cool. I got the pair of these for the price of an AR 22lr conversion kit, so as long as they work I'm happy.
Range report when finals are over.

I love mine. Very accurate and cool looks too! Mine is an Armi Jager imported by Mitchell Arms.

My daughter loves to shoot it too!

Nice pics, iwannasee! What ammo have you had the best luck with? I was going to pick an assortment of high velocity stuff and run 'em both for a few hundred rounds this next week. They'll keep the new 10/22 company. :)

It isn't finicky at all. Last time out to the range i even ran some subsonic rounds and they cycled just fine. Spare parts are practically non-existent, so I have made my own firing pins and have a couple of extractors in the works. Just me and my dremmel and patience, right now it is running just like new. It is really pretty accurate too, even with wally world bulk pack Federals.

The flier I blame on myself.

I am more accurate with this rifle than I am with a stock out of the box Ruger 10/22.

I'd give you your money back on one of them plus shipping if you want to sell one, Had one years ago and kick myself for selling it, Let me know if interested in selling one.

Kenny.

I appreciate the offer Kenny, but I think I'm going to keep the pair, both as a father/son project and as a reference point for when I have to make parts like iwannasee did.

Thw two that I have are filthy, they need a bath.

Sequential serial numbers, too!

So today I picked up a couple bricks of Aguila HyperMaxSuperVelocity (or some other ridiculous adjective salad). Made it to the indoor range for a 25 yd function check. One had light primer strikes about every 8th or 9th round, the other ran like a top. They're both still filthy, so I imagine they'd do well with a good cleaning. If I can figure out how to get a pic from my phone onto photobucket, I'll put it up here. I was using the 2" shoot-n-c targets, I managed to keep 30 or so rounds inside of one at 25yds, standing but leaning against the bench, good enough for me. MUCH quieter than indoor 223, too. :D

Floppy - with no sales tax on the receipt, was that internet or mail order? if so, where from? i'd like one too!

They were at Camp Allen in Norfolk. Last I checked they had two left, both missing mags. If you can scrounge up a mag and you're local, it might be worth a go.

I bought both of the rifles under the condition that the store didn't think they worked, so I took a gamble. Turns out the mild Centurion ammo the employees had used wouldn't cycle the bolt... so they sold them.

I'm probably going to jump through some hoops getting the first to run well, but it's going to be a fun project. Updates to follow.

AP-74

Hi, I met you at Camp Allen range and you gave me and my buddy some ammo to test out the two AP-74's they had left. (i got them both) have you been able to find a source for Magazines and parts yet or are you making your own.

There's a site by Redhorse or some such, He says he is testing a theory that a common .22 pistol mag may fit them with a modification.

I need a bolt for mine... or machine drawings.

I'm watching that blog with the teasers about the Italian pistol mags with interest, as finding magazines has always been the problem with these. Floppy-D, you can pat yourself on the back--you practically stole those at that price. I'd have bought them, too!

My son just shot a weekend of Appleseed training with an AP74 and one magazine, and he did great. Dad has one too, but he was limping along with a Mad-Max-style magazine with the chrome ear/floor plate from the bottom of a Ruger MkII magazine affixed . . . and now he's lost that one.

If it turns out that I can buy as many cheap eye-talian pistol mags as I want and make a few cuts, I'll be a happy man.

Hey, how are you? I've only shot mine once since then, it worked pretty well. I'm going to end up making a firing pin for one of mine, if I have any luck I'll shoot you a PM with what I did. It's gonna look like this: ap74firingpin.jpg

(Thanks to iwannasee for the picture)

I've been meaning to get out to the range sooner, but the Big Brown Truck has some goodies I'm waiting on first, and it's due in tomorrow. No more excuses. :)

wow you're sooo lucky! i've been looking for one of these for quite some time.. my stepdad had one when i was younger and i loved it... it was one imported by mitchell tho... its the same gun i believe..
in my personal opinion these are some of the coolest and unknown guns out there...

wow!!! that is some sick pricing dude, those are typically 300 and up a piece, and the ak variants by jager are even better, especially if you can find the 22 mag version!!!!!! should be hi cap mags for both out there as well. Jager is generally considered to have made the best ar/ ak 22 variants out there. So good luck to you, kudos, way to go, and go get a lottery ticket you sick Bas@$rd!!!!!

I also have only shot mine once since I got them. One has a cracked stock and missing firing pin (bought a firing pin on Gun Broker waiting for it to come in) and I only have one mag to use for the both of them. Hope to see you at the range some time.
