Can SP primers cycle a semi auto pistol by itself?

I know primer will push bullet out of case and bullet will get stuck in barrel, but it will cycle new round from magazine into chamber?

I always double and even triple check my reloading tray with a flashlight before seating bullet, I use a single stage press (lee breech lock challenger press). New reloader here.

Thanks

Negative (no way no how). Straight up ANY primer will not cycle actions in anything I know of. Not even a Super Colibri or CB will cycle a 22lr weak springs.

Wouldn't that be a squib load?
And very possible but should be noticeable when fired.

You see some strange things reported on the internet. I don't see how a primer could cycle in a fresh round to be shot and bulge a barrel... but a quarter grain of powder might. Or the shooter might have been in a fever pitch of excitement and racked it in himself without remembering it.

Take no chances. Put one and only one powder charge in each cartridge and you will not face the problem.

I use two reloading trays, one for primed only (with primers up) and one for charged cases. Then there will be less of a chance of ANY mistakes. Also I use a propellent that will more than half fill a case to help detect a double charge. finally I weigh each charge-even my many 9mm. So far still safe AND accurate.:D

No I don't think a primer can cycle a semi auto. If you use loading blocks and a flashlight you should be ok.

Ammo without powder.. The title made me think of my wax bullets. A wax plug in a .357 case with magnum primers. No powder, You can shoot em in the garage and are great for routing pest.

Hopefully this information will be helpful so I will pass it on. Last summer I was shooting at an outdoor range next to a guy shooting a fairly new Ruger P345 with 200 gr LSWC bullets. We had discussed loads since I was also shooting a 45 ACP pistol. I heard a funny sounding report from this fellow's pistol and looked over. He evedently fired a round w/o a powder charge, the case did not eject and the lead bullet travelled about half way down the barrel. Thankfully his pistol didn't recycle or he could have had a nasty "kaboom" if he fired the next round. I very easily removed his stuck bullet with a range rod and he went home to weigh the rest of his rounds. No, even a large pistol primer will not cycle an action. :uhoh:

+1

No type of primer will cycle any action.

It will drive the bullet into the barrel far enough to load another round behind it though.

tell me more. How does one go about getting/making wax bullets, and what kind of short range accuracy do they have? It sounds kind of messy, but fun!
